Render Differences based on System abilities?
I have been using a laptop with an i3Core, 6GB or RAM and a dedicated graphics card (or whatever it's called when you just have a run of the mill graphics card that's not built for this kind of work) since I started. I have asked some questions regarding speed and thank you all for your input on that. Part of the guidance I got was using a system with an NVIDIA GTX card is really what is needed for Iray to work the way it's supposed to. I intend to buy a new desktop within the month that will have an i7Core 4.0Ghz Processor, 16GB of RAM and a GTX970 card.
Before this triggers a lecture about how "Builders build houses, not tools", I am aware that 90% is creation on my part. All I'm asking is, once I have a picture set and lit and posed and everything the way I want, can I expect a better quality render on a new machine than I get with my current one? Will I have less poke through? Am I correct that I'm trading in my grand daddies hand saw for a Craftsman table saw?
Thank you! :)

The quality of the render itself should be unaffected by the hardware, only the time it takes to complete the render. The quality is dependent on the settings used.
Well given how long it take me for a render now, that's not bad news! lol And i'm sure my screen will lag less too. Sometimes it gets so loud during a render, I think my laptop is gonna lift off the desk like a heliocopter and fly away.
Now, that, could be a factor...because by default Studio/Iray will stop the render after 2 hrs...whether it's 'finished' or not. So being able to actually get more done, before the time limit kicks, could improve the 'quality'.
Or you could say that a render that times out never completes, so it would be a really long wait.
True...
