Ballet figure

Hi

I have poser 10 and would like to pose a female ballet figure. I've never used the software before and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what figures I should use or content I should purchase?

Go to the main shopping page and type "Ballet" or "Ballerina" in the search box.  This will bring up a list of items: clothing, poses, hair, dance practice room.  Looks to me that your best selection is for Genesis 2 Female and Victoria 4.  There's even poses for Genesis 2 male.

So you understand the various figures, here's a quick detail:

Victoria/Michael 4:  These are the older, Poser figures.  They have been around for a very long time and have lots of content, but you can't use content from any of the newer characters on them.  You can also find content for V4/M4 on Runtime DNA and Renderosity.

Genesis (aka G1):  This was the first generation created by DAZ 3D.  The figure can convert from male to female and use any of its content interchangeably.  They can also use clothing from V4/M4 and their textures (skin and eyes) but not the morphs (shape).  You can also use the V4/M4 poses for Genesis, with a little adjustment.  You can buy a converter (aka Auto-fit) to use Genesis 2 clothing on Genesis, as well as Genesis 2 skins on Genesis.

Genesis 2: They are split into separate male/female.  The figures are more detailed and have separate right/left morph dials, so you can create asymmetrical features.  The posing is more fluid.  This is the first generation with HD morphs which adds higher detail to the shape (for close-ups).  They can use Genesis textures (skin) but not eyes or morphs.  They can use Genesis clothing.  You will have to buy auto-fit to use V4/M4 clothing and a converter to use V4/M4 textures.  The con is that there is much less content for G2 Males as it does not sell as much as for females.  There is an auto-fit to allow G2 to wear G3 clothing.

Genesis 3:  Posing and expressions have improved.  There are less polygons, which means that they are not as detailed as Genesis 2.  The texture maps have changed (not laid out the same), so you cannot use any textures for the previous generation.  You can buy are auto-fits to use clothing for the previous generations.

Hair:  The auto-fits will allow you to fit hair on the various characters.  I have found that you can pretty much use any hair on any figure - provided you have the patience to dial all the adjustment morphs.

Shoes:  This is the one thing that doesn't convert well.  Even with an auto-fit, shoes will still warp on different characters, especially the heals.  I have found some flat shoes will work (G2 to G1), but others will warp as soon as I pose G1.  So you pretty much need shoes for that specific character.  Many shoes come with outfits anyway.

DAZ Characters: These are additional shapes that work on the base figures (G1, G2, G3).  Examples are the Girl, Freak, Gia, Teen Josie, Darias, Lee... etc.

PA Characters:  These are additional textures and morphs created by the PA's (Premier Artists) that can be used.  There are some created for the DAZ Characters, but there are more available for the base figures.  You can still find plenty of ethnic characters for the base figures.

Depending on who you talk to, people will differ on whether to use G2 or G3.  Some people (me included), are not interested in G3 at this time.  It takes some cash to invest in a figure generation, so it's a good idea to do a little research.  There are some forums where you will find discussion on G2 vs. G3.

My personal recommendation?  I think Genesis 2 is the most versatile.

You can try all three figures for free (except V4/M4), because it comes loaded with Daz Studio.  Look in Content Library under Genesis / Genesis 2 / Genesis 3 Starter Essentials.  You will get a texture, hair and clothing for the figures.  You can't morph them (change the face or body shape), but you can play around with them.  You must purchase the Head/Body morphs for each figure in order to change them (some PA characters require the morphs).

    Good luck!

Since you say you have P10, I'll mention that Genesis 3 does not work in Poser at all, and to use Genesis 1 and 2 you'll need the DSON Importer plugin.

So my suggestion would be to use V4 if you want to do your scene in Poser 10.

For ballet clothes for V4 my favorite are Littlefox's "The art of dance - Ballet V4" products at RuntimeDNA, Fabiana's El Cisne at Renderosity, and the Degas Ballerina in the store here.
