Head Shaving

I want to put together a scene where a long-haired woman is shaving her head, GI Jane-style. She'll start off with this and end up with this.
I'm looking for tips/suggestions on how to acheive this, specifically...
- How to portray the hair on her head, when part of it is shaved and part isn't
- How to do the cut hair piling up on the floor.

Animated or just a series of stills? I have an idea using the hiding properties you can do with a prop, etc., but I am sure it would mostly be for a still. As for the piling up on the floor, I am not sure.
Post-work, I would suggest - though you could use Strand-based hair to generate some locks to scatter on the floor and have falling.
