I need water!

Hello again guys, can anyone recommend any good 'sea' or 'ocean' shaders please?

I've got a couple here but to be honest they're either pretty naff or I'm just unable to change them to suit the effect I want, I've also tried using 'ocean' scenes from other products I have and I can't get those to suit what I'm looking for either.

I'm trying to create a scene involving U-Boats and seaplanes and I need a really good 'ocean' to carry everything.

Thanks guys.... Jon T.

You can try Ocean Wide. It has an option for calm and rough sea, and it is very large. http://www.daz3d.com/ocean-wide

Thanks Reno, that does look quite good but you're right, it my not pass off as an ocean and 30 bucks is pretty steap if you find out it's not the one.

dracon... I already have Ocean Wide and to be honest it's pretty crap, or maybe it's just me not able to work out how you get it to work. It looks like sh** in iRay and the skydome is always much too close to your eye instead of giving any feel of distance.

Oceanwide looks pretty good to me. did you change the surface for Iray? Select the water in the surfaces tab and apply the Iray Uber base, then I would apply the Iray water shader, which then still needs a little tweaking with the different color/opacity/bump settings. Maybe even a colored plane underneath

Thanks kaot... I will give this a try of course because as of yet I haven't been able to find any 'ocean' that fits what I want. So far I'm not at all impressed with 'Ocean Wide' to be honest, the sky is damned awful and everytime I've used the sea, so far I've spent more time messing around with settings than I have rendering....lol

Since you are using Iray, I would scrap the skydome since you don't like it anyway and maybe use a background image instead placed in the "Enviornment" tab just under the Scene tab.

I scrapped the skydome a long time back kaotkbliss, it looks awful .... But what I did find while I was 'experimenting' is that the sky from ' Ultimo Paradisio' will work with just about anything you like, it has the great advantage of being dome shaped but transparent, you just delete the outer dome for the sky and it leaves lots of really good clounds, you mess around with surface tabs a little and you can get some really good cloud effects and just have the default DAZ 'sky and scene' set in your render. I've been using this quite a lot in most things I'm working on and once you get the clouds to suite your other settings they look great.

  • Just for Info:

Ocean Wide is currently in the Fastgrab Sale for 5$ something
