Inserting an old, third party model to the new studio

Greetings to all, and thank you for offering your time to read this.

Last time I've been dealing with Daz studio, was on the time when the whole concept was in the version of 3.1. After some time, I have decided to try the new Daz studio a try. Currently having the 4.8 v on my workstation, and am installing my older models back.

Up to this point, I have a question, for the more experienced ones to answer. Besides the official contect provided from Daz official artists, I have a couple of models that I need, that were made from third party artists for the Daz studio 3. Those models, even if manually copied to the "My library" file of the new studio, do not show up in the interface, but were working normally in the older version.

I believe it is due to a different way the directories must be set to be recognised in the new Daz studio 4.8? Or should I costumize the files formats to be recognized? Can anyone enlighten me to this?

They will likely be in the Poser Formats section of the Content Library...no 'special' adaptations needed, if the My Library folder is mapped to the Poser Formats (it should be by default).

  • It is quite an old format. To think, the primary file that is copied is a file named "Runtime" instead of "content" that is used right now.

If I copy the "Runtime" folder as is, then nothing new is seen in the library section of the interface. Instead, if I copy the file files included in it directly, I get to see those files, but almost all of the content is not usable still. (Only textures work. But since they need an object in the scene to be selected, in order to be applied upon, they are not usable either.)

Mjc. I will look in every gallery and I will be offering you a note back soon. Perhaps it is as simple as this. But currently, the situation is as described.

Okay. It seems like it was stored into the poser library instead.

    Thanks for the direction mjc1016.

Now something else really quick that came in mind. Does this version of Daz studio support normals? That said in the meaning, of the usage of normals, instead of bump maps, or geometry to offer a model some detail.

    Cheers.

Yes. If you look under the Surfaces tab and scroll down you will see the settings where you can insert a normal map.

  • Splendid.

Thanks for your time to offer me this information.

Best of luck in everything you are doing. Have a fine day.
