Need a little help getting started---trying to mix and match :)

Basically I have a dress and hair which work on Genesis 2

I found Anwyn, which works on V4 (but is also compatible with Genesis?) and requires V4.2 Morphs++, which requires V4

http://www.daz3d.com/anwyn-for-v4-genesis

So....what do I need to get..or am I completely screwed to try to get all these working together?

I found this:  http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female is that all I need? Do I still need the v4.2morphs++?? do I still need v4?

Are there any tricks/tips for making this conversion, or is this something so far beyond beginner level that I shouldn't try?

I'm so confused at this point! Thanks :)

If you are going to use Anwyn on Genesis then all you need is Anwyn and Genesis.

If you want to use Anwyn on V4 then you need V4 and the V4 Morphs++.

Sorry. Didn't notice the "2" at the end of Genesis in your original question.

I don't have the Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female so can't say how well it works but from the description, it's meant to do what you want. I do have a simaler product for K4 to G2 UVs that works fine (no longer available)

Hopefully someone who has used it will drop in and comment

I own Anwyn and Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Females.  I am assuming that you want to use G2F as your character, not V4.

V4 for G2F is a converter to use V4 skins and clothing on G2F - forwards compatible, not backwards.  So G2F items won't work on V4.

However, since Anwyn is for both V4 and Genesis, you can use the Genesis skin on G2F through autofit - V6 has the capability of using G1/V5 skins (but not V4 without the converter).  So you won't need to buy V4 for G2F - that is unless you want to use V4 only items on G2F.

Buy the way, unless you have good lighting, Anwyn Silver has a tendency to look gray.

Does the Genesis version of Anwyn use a Genesis UV?

All the "For V/M4 and Genesis" characters I have from that period use V/M4 UV's for the Genesis version.

The defsult Genesis UV is the V4 UV.

So without conformation from someone that owns it (there's no mention in any of the documentation), is it best to assume the textures for the Genesis version of Arwyn probably uses the V4 UV and so will need http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female or some equivalent to apply to G2F.

Also if the face and/or body morphs are required then http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 or some such will be needed. Unless there is an easy way of manually transferring morphs between V4/Genesis and G2 that I've missed.

TihraLahn could get Arwyn first to see what UV is used or if the morphs are needed and if it all looks too complicated/expensive, return it under the 30 day policy.

Wow....thanks everyone for all the responses!

Ok so I can do autofit on the skin from G to G2..without getting an additional product correct? I think this is what I'm looking to do, I'd like to use G2 (everything I have seems compatible with both except Anwyn)

Yes I noticed the grey problem...currently struggling with that!  My first test render looked like a drow...   I seem to be having an issue where if I apply the silver skin and change the lips or makeup, it "doubles up" on the face and then face is really dark grey and body is silver. It only shows in the render, in the viewport it looks fine!  It doesn't seem to behave this way with the flesh tones. Any secret tips for lighting? :)

Can I avoid having to buy http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female if I do as dracorn stated above?

So to transfer the morphs it looks like I would need both http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 and http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 (looks like the product is not really complete on it's own unless I'm missing something).

Then if I ever got any clothes for v4 or g1, I would need that other plugin to convert to G2.  Got it :)

I already bought Anwyn and have been playing around with it  I was hoping there was a way to do all the customizations and then just export and import to g2 without buying anything else...because wow you can really go crazy buying neat stuff here...but it sounds like I'm going to have to at least shell out another $50 for the gen/genx2.

Can you tell what UV Set the Anwyn character uses? If you load it to Genesis it should be say in the surfaces tab. Should be about third from the bottom if you select/highlight Genesis.

You've given two links to Genesis-gen-x2. I assume the second was meant to go to the add-on and I guess if you are inexperienced and lacking time that would be pretty handy but you don't really need the morph for Anwyn. You could try using the shaping morphs you have to shape G2F as close as you can. I have no idea how much you know about using DS so for now I'll go with - not much.

Anyway the Head and body morphs in the Anwyn (and other character packs) change the shape of the base character (V4 or Genesis in this case). Do you need that to get the end image you want? Or is it just the skin tones you are after?

Sorry. I have to go. Rides here. Back in a couple of hours.

  • I can either set to Genesis Female UV set and apply one skin material or set to Victoria 4 UV set and apply a different one.  I see now that's why there were two DUH!

So that also fixed my double shading problem that I mentioned above...since setting to Genesis the problem went away :)

I was looking for both the shapes and the skin tone. I bought this one because I couldn't figure out how to morph a face myself.....then I realized from reading some other posts that I need to buy the morphing tools to actually be able to morph, and that's why I wasn't seeing any way to do it.

OK. Sorry it took so long to get back.

Anyway. No you don't need to buy gen/genx2. You can use the Transfer Utility to transfer the Arwyn genesis morphs to G2F.

These instructions should get you through the experience http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/rigging/tutorials/basics_initial_rig_with_transfer_utility/start  Start with a base Genesis with just the Arwyn morphs and "Fit" G2F to it. Choose "None" for Projection Template. Click "Accept". When finished delete Genesis. It may not be the best option but short of buying a resource like Gen/GenX2 it's all I got.

Edit: Save as SubSet while still in the T Pose. There is propably a better way to save (as a morph preset or something) but you can work that out later.

The attached image shows, left to right:

    Genesis Base Male.

Genesis Base Male with character morphs.

    G2M with transferred character morphs.

    G2M.

They all have Genesis Phillip Hairy (M5) skin. The G2M with transferred morphs needs some tweaking (eyeballs shifted back for a start)  Also I forgot to change the bump map to Close Up and the lighting is a bit intense but never mind.

LOL Image too big. Will resize it and try again. Done

Edit: thanks to Leana I just found this thread  http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24093/transferring-morphs-from-genesis-to-g2m-g2f-and-from-g2m-g2f-to-genesis-now-with-clones/p1
