Does Daz 4.8 auto save?

DekeDeke Posts: 1,635

A render locked up and I had to force quit. Is there any way to resurrect that file. Yes, I should have saved before rendering.

  • No, I think the potential size of the files makes that impractical. In any event, even if it was possible in principle it hasn't been implemented. You could open a support ticket to make a feature request for it to be added to a future version, but that doesn't of course help you now.

Thanks. Live and ...remember to save.

I was also hoping for an auto save at some point, but then at the same time it would really mess things up for me. When I'm doing a series of images for comic or graphic novel or something like that, I tend to reload the last scene and work from there, adjusting characters and stuff. I keep all my scenes saved in case I need to go back and rework something. If there were an autosave, then it would likely end up saving over my old scene with the current one before I have a chance to save it with a new name :(

No, but many of us have been asking for auto save since before 4.0. I don't think it's ever going to happen. DAZ doesn't have a very good track record of listening to what the users want.

I would hope that an autosave, if one was ever added, would save to a temporary file not to the working scene file.

Many things that users have asked for have been implemented.  They may not always be implemented the way the requestor envisioned.  The problem is that there is so much more to consider when a request comes in as there is an uberbase of users to think about and a finite amount of time.  There are also requests that are so much more complex under the hood, that they can't be done.  It is not a matter of not listening.  You can't gauge how much listening occurs by what features you wanted make it into a program.  That is not a reliable measure.  Daz is always listening and always working on what can be worked on.

There are third party programs which sort of do that job, I remember DAZ even having one as one of their weekly freebies.

That was a long time ago, from memory I think it was called FileHamster.

  • I don't recall FileHamster offering an Autosave-like feature, rather it was like Apple's Time Machine or the Widnows equivalent, allwoing you to go back to a previous version of a saved file.

Yeah, sure.  Like the way this request was handled.  http://helpdaz.zendesk.com/requests/204177

  • We can't see reports, but not every request can be implemented and not every request that can be implemented will be for a variety or reasons - that was the point of Cris' post.

  • How about a simple reminder "Would you like to save before rendering" for those of us who can't remember to do this simple task. With an optional "do no show in the future" option for those who can.

That sounds like a good feature request - please open a Techincal Support ticket so that it can be logged for the developers.
