Should I upgrade to Daz 4.9?

DDCreateDDCreate Posts: 1,404

I have been learning 4.8 since October and am getting fairly okay at it. Does 4.9 offer any advantages as far as ease of use or higher quality? I am afraid to attempt the download for fear of losing all my purchases. The new Daz Connect feature seems to be pretty awesome but I can function without it. Has anyone had any problems as far as losing items when switching? Are there any safegaurds I should take before I try? Is it complicated or does Daz Connect auto install all your previous purchases? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Three years ago, I had precisely the same level of experience with DAZ Studio that you have now.  Based on that, I would suggest you stick with 4.8 for the time being and focus on perfecting your basic skills.  You don't really need to upgrade unless you wish to download some content that is only available through DAZ connect.

Always backup your content. If your budget won't run to external hard disks or DVD/Blu-ray burners, the price of 128GB USB flash memory drives is now reasonably low.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

    1) DS4.9 includes updates to both Iray and 3delight which fix some bugs and for some people improve speed.

    2) If you have custom categories/tags/metadata, be sure to Export User Data before updating.

    3) You don't need to use Connect, you can still access anything installed manually or with DIM.

    4) If you want to test it out first, you can install the 4.9 beta and keep 4.8 as the release version.  Note that the beta and release do not share settings, so if you have custom content locations you will need to add them to the beta.
