How to unselect everything in Scene tab? [solved]

Hi,

how do I unselect everything in the scene tab?

I would like to use Smart Content to add new characters to the scene, but since I have something selected, it will only allow me to use stuff that is for the selected item.

The tutorial said I should simply click below the items in an empty space, but there is no empty space, I have many props in the scene, even if I have the Scene tab displayed in full height, I have the scrollbar at the side, and there is not even a single pixel of empty space below or above the props in the tab.

I have a workaround: add a camera, select that, and that will make Smart Content show me everything, but there must be an easier way to do this.

I'm still on 4.8.

Thanks,

Ati

  • Click with right mouse button in the scene tab and from the menu use Select - Clear Selection.

    Perfect, thank you!

Be aware, though, of which tool you're using; the Clear Selection option isn't in the same place in different tool context menus. That confuzzled me for a bit before I realised what was happening.

Left clicking anywhere in the viewport with your cursor not on an object works too.
