Importing 3d models from Blender/Maya to Daz Studio

HI. So i have heard that Daz studio can import 3d models from other programs to Daz studio. I tried importing some simple prop item to daz studio from blender after assigning shader materials in blender as texture. ( havent tried on Maya yet) and the import only imported the models with no texture to Daz 3d. Why is that textures are not displaying in daz 3d? tried with other 3d models from others on the net, some display textures some dont. what is causing this texture not to show?

Generally, expect to retexture in Studio...

The obj format is very picky about textures and where they image files are located...it doesn't handle complex directory structures very well and doesn't like things like spaces in names.  FBX and Collada are somewhat better...but they have other import problems in Studio (like rigging is difficult to impossible to import and tend to be very picky about scaling and transforms).

Also, the obj format is limited on what it can attach as a base texture...basically a diffuse color/image map, bump and opacity/transparency.  So if you aren't doing an image based diffuse, then there's even less to import to begin with.

So the easiest thing to do is collect your maps in a central location (usually a folder just for that item) that can be dropped into the Studio texture folder and reassign them once every thing is imported into Studio.  That way, when you save it out as a prop or figure, the files will already be in the correct location.

Are the textures UVMapped to the mesh?

no textures uvmapping done. if i uvmap the model and then later apply textures will it help?

sorry if i ask im still new to 3d. u said about putting my maps in central locations. do you mean texture maps or baked maps? Do i have to bake the maps into normal maps, ambient occlusion maps and so on in my 3d modeller after texturing before importing to daz? or can i just texture the model,  uv map it and then export as fbx or obj files?

Yes, you need to UV unwrap the modeld before texturing them, in or for them to be able to be textured in Studio.

And no, you don't absolutely need to bake them, but you do need to make sure that if you are using procedural textures or just assigning images to the diffuse that you do at least create/bake a diffuse map that matches the UV mapping.  Normal and/or bump/displacement are also a good idea to bake, too.

thanks, appreciate the info. :) i think that clears things up alot for me. i tried google there arent much resources about it. em so in short most 3d models need to be retexture in daz? justt to confirm, to texture, i can add an image file to a 3d model as a texture in daz studio like in 3d modeler,...and i also can use baked normal maps, diffuse maps, ambient occlusion maps etc as texture and to texture inside daz studio?
