How to render an animation without background? (transparent)

Is there a way to render an animation without a background ? Thanks in advance.

Render to an image sequence using PNG or Tiff, then sttich that together in an animtion application. That's generally the best way to work anyway (and is indeed hor DS works - it renders to a sequence, then runs that through the codec at the end).
