condolences, didn't like him as Darth Vader because i don't like Darth Vader but I did like him in a Field of Dreams so I guess he did his job well.
Condolences, he's one of few truly irreplaceable entertainers
...that was one of my favourite roles which he portrayed.
Loved him as Vader, Mufasa, and all his other voicing, but also as Thulsa Doom in Conan, not to mention the best rendition of Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven.
RIP :(
RIP :(
We were blessed by his talent and prescence for all the years he was in the public arena, but his family and friends knew him deeper. I send them my deepest thanks for sharing him with us.
Amen to that. I loved him in pretty much all of his roles. He will be missed RIP.
I remember him first from the 1982 "Conan The Barbarian" movie where he was the big snake guy.
I may have seen him in person back when I was in high school. My drama class went downtown to Portland State University to watch a play that one of our high school drama class graduates had a role in, and my teacher, Mrs. Sparks, said the lead actor was a famous movie star. I wasn't familiar with James Earl Jones back then (this was in the 1960s) but I do remember how he looked and that voice. It was a play about gladiators, but that's all I can remember about it. But I'm pretty certain it was him.
He was in one of my favorite movies, Field of Dreams. In addition to Darth Vader, I'll also remember him as King Jaffe Joffer and Mufasa. His voice is iconic, and he was revered as an actor. He surely left a lasting footprint with his works. Though his voice may continue on in the form of AI for Darth Vader, may he himself rest in peace.
A sad day, what a legend. I was lucky enough to see him in person perform on stage. Playing Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Just legendary stage presence, and that booming voice, gave me goosebumps. Of course to me he'll always be first and foremost, the voice of Darth Vader, we’ve lost another great actor here. That voice, that gravitas. Unmistakable and iconic in any role he played. A legendary actor. R.I.P. James Earl Jones.
I very much love the movies of Star Wars and always memorize his voice ~ Condolences and R.I.P.
Eventually, we'll have to let go of our favorite old and loved voices. I can already feel it happening :(
But maybe it’s not so bad? Perhaps we’ll get used to it over time.
...it possibly was Shakespeare's Coriolanus. which takes place in ancient Rome.
There were so many films he did, often not getting much attention to his roles. He related a funny story about his experience early in his career doing "Dr Strangeglove or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the bomb"--
He was one of the pilots for the bomber and the script called for him to roll his eyes at one point as he worked opposite Slim Pickens, but he protested and said he wasnt' going to do that because "it was racist". So when the filming for that scene came up, rather than argue the director simply told him to "look up, look left, look down, look right, look up." Then JEJ saw the dailies for that day and had to facepalm--he had rolled his eyes!
RIP, James. Your iconic voice is one that lives in our hearts forever.
