Dome rendering.

Everytime I try to render any dome environment like, ultrumarine-ocean, in IRAY, all I ever get is a black screen. Do I need to make some setting adjustments to make it work or is it impossible to use IRAY for these items?

Mynyori, I'm having the same issue... I'm very new to Daz, so I'm confident I'm missing something. ^_^

Fishtales, I dug around in that thread and tried several things, but couldn't figure out how to get the render to not be solid black when using IRAY. Like Mynyori, I'm using a purchased product and just trying to get it to "do what it says on the tin."

I'm using Dreamlight's In Bed product trying to get that same warm light environment in the product shots. I'm adding the "complete" content, adding the "Day1" light presets from the product, adding a camera (also from the product), and clicking render...and I get nothing but black. T_T When I try to do a spot render, I get the same.

Obviously, there's a step that's needed that goes beyond just running with the defaults from all the things. :-P

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I'll check it out. Thanks. And it's good to know I'm not the only one with issues on given products.

I'll keep this for a reference. But it doesn't seem to work for underwater. Lowering the oppacity helps, but it kind of goes against the whole thing.

A sky dome in Iray is like putting a putting a metal shield over the world and blocking any potential light from the sun. You can still take a photo but you need to be sure that the render has been changed to scene only and add light back in to replace all the light your blocking. You can turn the light blocking dome into a light itself by changing it to emissive or you can remove it and use the light from a proper hdri or the sun sky option. I don't have the ocean one but I would guess you would have to do something along the lines of an emissive conversion (just change the emissive color to white and put the texture for the dome into the color slot) as well as being sure to convert all the surfaces to iray since light travels differently through iray surfaces and those not properly converted.

I don't have that product but looking at the product page it looks like, after making the changes above, I would turn off Thin Wall and change Refraction Index to 1.33 for water. I don't know what that will do but it is something I would try :)

I clicked on that link and it took me to the first link page. I don't know how that happened :)

Thanks for the help, Fishtales. I've got this working...mostly. :) I'm at least on the right track!

Same steps as earlier, but this time I:

    1. hid the sky dome
    2. added the sky dome's material as the IRAY environment map
    3. tweaked a bunch of settings to match yours--just in case!
    4. rendered (and waited ;) )

The sky out the window is far too hot, but at least it's there and the render isn't solid black. ^_^

    Thanks again for the help!

If you used the settings I posted then you shouldn't need to hide the skydome. The reason the light outside is shown as white is because the tone mapping settings are set for the indoor lighting.

To get the light lower try turning the Environment Intensity and or Environment Map down.
