Way to reset eyes?

I tried to be fancy and apply some iray mats to the eyes of a characer. the result was the whites around the iris seem to have vanished or turned dark.  Can't figure out how this happened. Is there a way to reset eyes?  I've tried to select the eye and apply a mat but it doesn't work.  Working in Daz 4.8 on a mac with the Michael 6 character.

    The question is...how do they render?

    Just because they are dark in the viewport doesn't mean they will render that way.

    But, most eye mats can be replaced by just selecting the character.  Some need both the character and the specific surfaces selected.

    When planning to make changes to "just the eyes", first load the figure and apply all the materials. Then save out a materials preset file for "just the eyes".

    Then as you make changes to the eyes, anytime you want to, you can apply that preset to "reset" them back to their original state.
