Advice Needed: Knitting

So, I'm working on a picture for a friend. He's requested for someone to be knitting a sweater.

Anyone have any suggestions how to accomplish this?

I mean, the posing of the character and the knitting needles shouldn't be too difficult...Maybe some nail props scaled up, or just column primitives, but the sweater part...that's got me a bit perplexed.

Helix - one of the line options in Hexagon. Then on another tab is the option to "thicken" them.

I actually wound up finding a knitting prop set: http://trumarcar.francemi.net/props_tc.htm

(near the bottom of the page) that with a bit of tooling around, should work just fine for me :)
