Iray Convergence?

Hi all,

What exactly is the convergence percentage measuring in other terms other than convergence rate? And why is it that convergence percentages sometimes are slow to advance and other times they reach 90+ % at a quick rate?

Thanks!

  • Convergence measures how much each pixel changes between iterations, looking for those that have remained stable for a number of iterations. How quickly that happens to a particular pixel will depend on the lighting and surfaces in thata rea of the image, so it isn't a linear progression - a well lit area with matt surfaces may converge quickly, a darker area or one with highly reflective surfaces may by much slower.
