The Affinity Suite has been on sale at 50% discount during the time all these Adobe scandals have been in the news. Clever marketing, I'd say. I've never been an Adobe fan and have used Affinity (and its predecessor, Serif PhotoPlus) for many years.

I recently found I could run Affinity suite on my computer, and I bought it. I'd been waffling about getting the latest PSE. The Affinity suite cost about the same for far more capability, and I decided to finally cut the cord. So far, so good.

I used Adobe products at work long before they became popular outside of professional organizations.  They were a breath of organization, standardization and capability hitherto unavailable at the time.  Got my own first copy of Photoshop6 when I bought a decent graphics card for my first home computer, an HP Win98 system.  Paid $600 (very expensive for the time) for the software boxed with the graphics card.  The computer and graphics card have long since been junked, but I  upgraded that old PS6 license a couple of times from PS6 to PS-CS2 to PS-CS5.  Added Illustrator CS2 and upgraded to Illustrator CS5 years later.  Never bought into the subscription model.  Still happy with my fully owned, CS5 versions of Illustrator and Photoshop.  I'm too old to switch to another product now.  These days, in my case, new learning curves are more like black holes. (i.e. I'd get sucked in and crushed)frown

Apparently they updated their TOS as of yesterday.  Based upon a Youtube I watched, today, they were also stating in their TOS that they have the right to your user made content. And some folks are speculating whether they are using it to train their AI?

Interesting that they updated their TOS I pulled up from prior to yesterday (I pulled up the earlier version in the wayback machine and section 4 is specifically 4.2 is different:

https://www.adobe.com/legal/terms.html ; (Published June 18, 2024. Effective as of June 18, 2024. These General Terms of Use replace and supersede all prior versions.)

Now I use Adobe suite currently, and love their software, but hearing and seeing the changed TOS does not sit well with me.  I am so used to doing everything in Photoshop, so it  is easier to keep it, however, maybe it is time for me to think about something else. I am not a fan of subscription models and have explored other options earlier this year.  I hate the idea of "you will own nothing and be happy".  I spent good money years ago on older perpetual versions of their Suite and have wondered if you are even allowed to even use their older versions.. like say in a virtual machine.

Yep, CS6 here also. I bought it new in box 10+ years ago and am still doing work and hobby stuff with it.

I still use Photoshop CS4 including Dreamweaver and Fireworks. I have no idea if I'll be able to reinstall it when I get a new computer. I'm currently giving the Affinity apps a try and mostly pleased. Mostly...

Years when I do a lot of digital painting I've purchased a pre-paid card that was the Photography subscription (PS plus Lightroom) for one year for $120 - I loved the latest version up until about 2021. Never found a painting tool I like using as much, and it's hard to beat years of muscle memory for the shortcuts.

But for just image editing and everything else I'm happy enough with the CS6 Design Suite I bought outright years ago. The interface scaling is the main issue I have.

I was always scared to give them my credit card details!

If you have your product key, you'll be able to reinstall your PS on your new computer. I was able to install my CS5 on my new computer as well as the CS6 upgrade that I had purchased as a download so long ago. I did have to talk to customer service for the CS6 download, which was tedious, but worth it.

GOOD, I despise adobe, thanks to them ZBrush went from perpetual to rentware… I say "thanks to them" because they were the ones that pioneered the practice of rentware, and now, you have to also rent updates to many software programs now…

Affinity photo, and even the 'ole trusty paintshop pro is a better purchase than renting out adobe progs...

I just checked my install and have 'your serial has been revoked' message - the online chat person wouldn't help me, said I had an invalid product until I dug out the Adobe order number for it. I've been passed along to a higher level of support who will email me in 4-7 business days.  Maybe it's time I have another look at Krita for painting.

Will CS6 work/activate on Windows 11?  It should work/activate on Windows 10 AFAIK, but so far I've only used it on Windows 8.

I'm not sure, I'm still on 10, it's worked before!

I got a subscription pop-up, but I just closed it (X in upper right corner) and could read the article then.

On some subscription sites (don't know about this one) you can read a limited number of articles (either total or per month), without subscribing.

OK, thanks!  I'll stick to Windows 10 as long as possible anyway.

That happened to me back when they went subscription. I was told that the stand alone license was no longer supported and that I would have to buy a subscription and there was no discount offered. There wase multiple forums at the time with people posting who had the same thing happen to them.

I use EaseUS Todo PCTrans to migrate from pc to new pc. I have used it successfully on three Laptops and a PC. I am still using Photoshop CS4 :)

Way back in the mists of time I bought CS2, did the smart thing and registered it "over the phone", wrote the activation numbers on the inside of the box lid. This is the fourth PC it's been installed onto and the fourth windows OS, and yes it actually does work on W!0 and W11.
