Yes, it must be saved as at least an altered asset (but saving it over top of the original won't work in the long run, as any updates will overwrite the 'fixed' version). So saving it as a separate version would be best...probably adding a Nogeo tag to the name would also be a good idea.
I wrote a help request. I got the predicted response - it was designed that way.
I sent a message to the PA, Nikisatez, pointing out the frustration we are having.
Hello All
I was alerted to this thread by one of you and want to express my apologies for any angst this geografting method may have caused any of you. I was advised to use this method on a few occassions and was unaware that this method or rigging was so disliked. I will endeavour not to use it (unless the product would specifically call for it) in the future.
If you want to remove this permanently from the clothing you can open the .dsf file for the figure from the \data folder in a text editor (not the .DUF file) and deleting the entire graft section makes it into a regular conformer Example:
"graft" : {
"vertex_count" : 19296,
"poly_count" : 18872,
"vertex_pairs" : {
"count" : 156,
"values" : [ list of number pairs, [ 123, 123], here ]
},
"hidden_polys" : {
"count" : 318,
"values" : [ list of number here ]
}
},
Just be careful not to include too many or too few brackets
Cheers and apologies for the angst
Nikisatez, thank you for joining the conversation and showing us how to permanently fix existing products. I don't shy away from editing code, so I'm willing to give it a try. I especially appreciate your intent to avoid this in the future. Now I can happily purchase your new products again without worrying about this issue.
Five seconds in Notepad++, search for graft, find the matching brace, delete, save, and Abigail pants are fixed! I reloaded my saved scene and my transparency mask is working fine and the character legs are showing. I can hide the pants with the eye icon and the character legs show. I reloaded the original texture covering the entire leg, and there is no poke through either. Yipee! I am happy. And I am so happy that I feel comfortable buying from Nikisatez again, because they are nice looking clothes.
Also to clarify my earlier post, I misspoke when I said I "deleted" the boots and the legs stayed invisible. Deleting the boots bring the legs back completely - it's making them "invisible" with the little eye that doesn't. So yes, deleting brings it all back. I'm still a bit peeved about that tho, as I like to make certain things invisible when I try other stuff - so if I want to go back to the original item, I dont' have to scroll and find htem and reapplythem.
I'll try the edit suggested by Nikisatz for the file, thanks.
I have a Q. When you go to save assets like this, is it like morphs that require the Dials on by default on G3F set to zero, or just save it as is? (Mouth Realism HD, and Navel).
(EDIT)
Not like morphs that tend to pile up on a dial, saving cloths is different. I'm guessing the dials are fine as is, tho I still am not sure saving a clothing asset with a figure shape dial dialed in is a good idea (Probably not good to do).
The particular 'dsf' file in question is the first one in the folder tree, not one in Morphs or UV Sets.
Thank you very much Nikisatez. While my enthusiasm is not as much as barbult's, I am thankful this is somewhat easy to address. And it dose indeed work. A very Humble Thanks to you.
LOL This is very much appreciated :D
You're all welcome. I'm just sorry to have caused angst in the first place. But now that I know it causes headaches, I won't be doing it again.
Check your PMs, Nikisatez =)
dear Nikisatez
how about a script for this
please mention the method used in the product
and...what has this to do with "angst" which is a german word and means fear also in english
I know what Nikisates means by angst. It is all the anguish and frustration we were expressing about clothing that doesn't behave in the way we are used to. When you have your scene all setup and ready to render and you decide to try another outfit or shader and your character loses body parts that you can't figure out how to get back! That's the angst referred to, I believe.
1000 thanks to nikisatez. It also works on Stone from Midnight_Stories for G3M
Any chance you can go back and update your current products to remove them (or create a version with and without it)?
To edit, yes. To convince Daz to add it to a product, I don't know. I've asked for similar in the past, and was informed that getting it to DIM can be far more work then just making the adjustment to a product.
Further more, because the DSF file in question, contains some rather important stuff for the outfit's geometry, sharing the altered DSF file can be "A bit sticky". It is an imperfect world after all, that we must all endure (Costumers, Daz, and the PAs).
without sounding rude, Please understand that this is an acceptable way to rig clothing as far as support is concerned. I have provided an alternative (I hesitate to say "fix") above that would allow the user to remove the geograft if they are so inclined. Some of these products require the geograft in place to work properly.
Can you elaborate on which items require the graft, so we don't edit those away and break them?
I ususlly put multiple outfits on a figure and hide them away so that I can use whichever one I need for the current situation (e.g. for work, out on the twon, casual, out adventuring). I will stop buying/start returning products that disrupt my workflow. It is *NOT* acceptable to me. With that said, It sounds like what we need is a way to disable the geograft when the clothing item is hidden (or something that gives us that end result).
That would be the best, yeah.. or even better, also have a switch in the figure's parameters to be able to turn off the poly hiding feature if desired.. for cases like mine where I otherwise wouldn't have cared about it but I wanted to make lace gloves. I t could even be hidden so newbie users couldn't accidentally mess up and otherwise fine outfit by toggeling it but it would be there for the advanced users.
While I agree with you, because I do the same thing, saving Scene subsets for figures with cloths on them. The 'Work around' above is not much different. You save the pants (Figure/Prop Asset) with a different Name, edit the DSF for the 'Copy' of the pants you just saved, and then use that on your figures. Yes it is work to set up, yet after that, it is like using your figure that you save with the outfits already on them. Use the altered pants that you saved and modified, not the originals, like you use the figure scene subset rather then load the original figure.
Also, please don't give Nikisatez too much crap about updating things, Daz bought these items from her, they are no longer her property, it is their (Daz) responsibility to update them if they think it's necessary. The "fix" she posed is easy to do and works fine. If you don't want to risk messing up the original load the clothing, save as figure/prop asset, change the name in window exporer and the box that pops up to something different (like "mage sleeves no geo") and save it. That will give you a duplicate in your data folder you can mess with without worry.
Good point. I will probably let support know my feeelings on the subject. Maybe if enough people do so DAZ will take a closer look at the issue.
I bought 3 Nikisatez products today!
My play funds for the month are spent already. However I will say, I am enjoying the Neoprene Swimsuit with all the mat zones on the thing, the Arthurian Outfit is really nice for so many scenes, and a few others I've used in funny scenes in the past.
Recognize the dress on the left, lol.
Redacted
lol, like lace leggings and stuff. Yea, that's what me and Fisty kind of had in mind, and the final mod to the Duf did do the trick for most figures. For Fisty it was for promos, me it was just outfit kit-bashing that revealed missing legs.
There are some things around that do not do the geo-graft trick to get around poke-threw issues, and they work really well for lace stuff. It's just a lot of work to get some things to fit properly. Unfortunately sometimes PAs don't get the time to actually go threw all the things I don't understand to make FBM/JCM fit things into the outfits to work properly with generation 7 figures, so many things end up skipped. I also suspect that some PAs never got the memo that G3F drastically changed shape from the beta days and what we have today, and outfit geometry not made to fit the correct shape of G3F is going to have significant problems on figure shape morphs. Add to that a lack of time to add fit adjustment morphs, and it is a sad state of affairs all around.
Things that have "Daz Originals" next to the PA name, are owned outright by daz3d.
All the PA did was make the item within the time and concept outlined by daz for a single lump sum and no more. The PA gets nothing beyond that except name recognition, and grief for everything the PA did not get the time to do the first time around. I do not know how much PAs get for buy-out items, nor do I need to know, tho I suspect it is not much considering how popular some things can be, and some things not so popular. All I can do, is say "I'm sorry it is this way", I can do no more.
Thanks Richard! That works great!
........and on top of all the workarounds we need to do to use Genesis 3 and 8 figures and clothing geografts mess up the UV mapping in Carrara
if you have the dson editor, makes it very easy to delete the geograft section in the duf file, converts the outfit to regular conforming.
