On the one hand I'm ecstatic, yet on the other, it's quite a sad turn of events as they were an industry-standard when it came to environmental generation, as the prog was used in avatar!
Thank you for sharing. I'll check it out the next time I'm on my rendering PC
...the entire package for Windows is something like 18 GB. Moved it to a high capacity flash drive for now as I have a small Boot Drive.
Does someone know how to open a .vob file in Vue 2023 ?
I tried to open the file from this freebie ( https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/79969/fly-fishing-set-for-vue ) with Vue 2023 (on my Mac if it's a relevant information) but wasn't able to.
File - Import Object
Sad to see the app die, remember it from my early Poser days - must've been back in 2004? Glad to grab it for free tho, and Plant Factory sounds very useful. Thanks for the heads-up!
(edited for typos, as always)
In Vue: import object (on Windows). Tested it with some of my old content, but it may not work for everything.
Cool pic, why are you rendering with CPU though? The FAQ say Vue works with GPUs, at least they recommend having one.
It has it's limitations. For the 'native' vue render engine, anti-aliasing has GPU-support. However, the cycles render engine, which will benefit greatly from the GPU, doesn't handle infinite planes - like with this seascape - very well (at least it gave me trouble on my system...)
Thank you !
I found my problem: I needed to open a new scene, otherwise, the menus were not visible
It was suggested to me to get all the offerings. For those interesrted in knowing how much every one of the dowloads adds up too it's 38.5 Gigs total!
This is a render site, lets see some Vue magic.
I see, thanks for elaborating!
Copious thank-yous for this surprising news.
The last Vue I touched was 6 X-Treme. I fell in love with its nodes, good for surfaces, sculpting volumes, scattering instances. I'd hang out in the forums watching for posts asking, "How would you create such-and-such effect?" and tackle them for fun. Even submitted how-tos for looping seamless cloud motion and merging camera-matched images from Vue and Poser. Eager to see what the new versions and a GPU can do.
What were the subscription rates? I quit paying attention during that era. Thanks.

Sorry, can't do that. How about a little something in DS with a common primrose from Plant Factory? And a pot & some soil (modelled in SolidWorks, textured via texturelib.com). Image should be called 'My Garden', but I failed with my naming convention.
As an aside, I used to have a silk primrose in a plastic pot on the parcel shelf in the back of my first car. Looked pretty much like that pot, and was about the biggest garden I could manage at the time.
Regards,
Richard
...now those older high core and thread count Xeons and Ryzerns would come in handy.
I have managed to export a number of the props from Vue so they can be used in Daz Studio. It was easier than I expected, I just loaded an object and then exported it.
These are mostly building props from the main Vue app, not plant props from the plant factory application.
Whilst some props export fine, a lot have messed up UVs on export. The props look fine inside Vue itself, so I am not sure why they can not be exported properly. Does Vue have some propriety UV system that is difficult to export? Is there some export options I need to select in order to export the props so that their UVs will work in other apps? I tried obj, dae and FBX formats, but in all cases the UVs of some props are messed up.
There is a gothic cathedral I would particular like to export. I have some Catherdral interiors, but no exteriors like this model.
Here are some examples of props I have successfully exported out of Vue and rendered in Daz Studio. Some rework of the shaders was done, but on the whole the textures are those exported out of Vue. I think some of the props are sold in the DAZ store here.
it has Ptex but so apparently does D|S
A few of Stonemason's older sets include a Vue component - you can find the ones you own in DIM by searching for "vue" since it's in the name of those installs (make sure your filters in the Advanced settings include Vue, though, or they might be hidden.) Of the Stonemason sets I own from back then, there are vue files for Tin Pan Alley, City Courtyard, Greeble City Blocks, Skydeck, and The Streets of Asia. So if you own any of those, you can install the Vue files into your Vue library and they'll load up ready to render. This is a straight-out-of-the box render of The Streets of Asia with the default sun position. I imagine I can get more realism by adding some maps to additional - this was meant for Vue 4, I think, or maybe even Vue 3 - so it's just diffuse & bump maps with a global highlight setting.
That's both great news and kind of sad.
On the plus side, I can finally make use of a lot of ancient Vue products I have but had become defunct when my early Vue application became corrupted and I could no longer use it. I couldn't even reinstall it as that app version was no longer supported.
On the downside, no more new stuff.
Dear DAZ3D,
The product filters on your shop pages list a fair number of software titles. Vue should be one of them. Cornucopia3D's absence leaves a vacuum. I invite you to consider entering it. Thanks for reading.
[edit=1]Now I see a Categories block amongst the product filters, answering one of my wishes for some time. Thank you.[/edit]

A low resolution version of one of my more popular Vue pieces. I have some more. One with a hanging Poser Skeleton. But that one is at night so the lighting is very dark, I don't like showing it.
Does anyone know any good reviews/introductions for VUE? (No YouTube)
PerttiA ignore this
Everyone else,
I fell asleep watching this and a snore woke me up with a start
(big reason I don't watch video tutorials either )
one of the AI tutorial posting YouTubers I sometimes watch is uploading Vue tutorials now
he used to do Vue tutorials before AI
After having a look at the manual, I get the impression that VUE is like Bryce on steroids, am I correct or is there more to it?
yes definitely
but Carrara is faster
way beyond Bryce. A lot of steroids.
I used to think Vue was pretty easy to use, but it sure seems a lot more complicated than what I remember. Plant Factory is a different beast as well. not easy
