I've noticed that several content packages like rooms and building come with a "light bounding box". It's like a shell built around my house. I render in iray but don't know what it is. Can someone explain what is its purpose?
I think it's for less complicated shadowing in 3dl. You can use a distant light, and just set the light blocker as a shadow caster. That would be my best guess.
Some others have it as 'black out' box. It is something that will seal the 'room' except for the designated portals (doors/windows). This will prevent light leaks at corners of walls/ceilings/floors and still allow removal of interior walls for 'long' shots without having to redo lighting.

Where are you seeing this?
It's a black box "light bounding box" that came with a package. It surrounds the house. What is it's purpose?

FFS, I just realized it says light blocking box. I've been up too long. Nevermind.
