Hair Texturing Tutorials?
I was wondering whether somebody came across any tutorials that would show the general workflow for creating textures for hair.
Especially how to paint different diffuse colors in Gimp/Photoshop for example.
I am currently trying to create some hair and I am kinda stuck at the texturing thing.
I have rather long hair myself (dark brown) so I can use photos of my hair as a refference to create alpha maps and the base for the diffuse map I guess.
I found some tutorials about "How to paint hair in Photoshop", but nothing that would focus on texturing a 3D hair model.
So let me know if you guys know about any good tutorials : )
I have been wanting to try hair creation in a while but I keep getting stuck like this.

Doesn't look like it. There are a few tutorials around for modeling hair, texturing hair is pretty much the same idea as for any other model. Some programs come with additional features for making hair textures but brushes etc can be made in any of the image editing programs that work with layers AFAIK. One trick for painting "straight" lines in some is to start with a dab and then hold the Shift or Ctrl key and paint the 2nd dab at the other end of the page.
If you take a look at the textures you already own - or even the available merchant resources, you'll find the scalp is one section and the "hair" is either in strips or as a massive section of the page. Hair is not "one colour" however it is not a good idea to overdo the addition of "lights" in hair.
Another minor detail is the end goal, realistic hair or toon?
Brushes are made "black on clear transparency", that black can be shades of grey for opacity. Then painting with carefully selected colours, one can layer combinations until the desired end result is achieved. Always test those on the figure to be sure what looks to be right actually is.
