Saving methods for customised older content

So, I've been using Daz for 9months and other than saving characters as Scene Subsets I haven't explored any other save types. I've been using some older poser content which I've updated to iRay (buildings in this case) and was wondering if there is another way to save it for content other than a scene subset? Prior to this, I do most iRay updates as and when I need them but this is becoming time consuming when I'm using the same content in a scene and converting it each time I need it!

A materials preset will save all of the modified materials for selected item. If you have a number of items all parented to a single figure you can also save a Hierarchical Materials preset which will save the material settings for all. Then you can apply the preset to update the loaded mesh, rather than having to load a fresh copy. For commone settings that you want to reuse as the basis for multiple items you can also save a Shader preset for a single surface, selecting only the properties you want to use in the option dialogue, and then  apply that to all selected surfaces on a selected model - so if you save the numbers but not the maps you can make an "updater" preset that will work on different things.
