Adding sound to animation

Hi.  I thought I read somewhere online that it's possible to add sound to an animation created using the timeline, but now I don't find anything like that.  Is this possible?  Or can anyone recommend other programs that would allow adding sound after the video is rendered?

    Render to an image sequence, not to an animation file, and you can add the soundtrack when you turn the sequence into the final animation. This is good practice anyway - it allows you to render in batches, to recover from crashes, and to fix minor errors by rerendering one or a few frames for example.

    Thanks, we were wondering about that.  Is there any program you can recommend for doing this with the image sequence?  Rank beginners here...
