Rendering on 2 computer, iMac & MacBookPro?
Who can tell me please how to set this up?
I work on an iMac and want to connect my Powerbook to help rendering simultaniously and save time.
Is there a way i can connect the 2 computers via LAN or WLAN and use both machines to render pictures?
Does this idea make sense?

Hi Liva,
I don't think you can do that with two disimiliar machines. If memory serves, the Powerbooks are PowerPC based systems and is not supported by the software I am about to mention. The product called Carrara Pro 8.5 (sold here) can use up to 10 computers and 20 CPU (cores/threads) to spread the render across multiple computers over the network. I don't beleive that DAZ Studio (the free software) can do network rendering. Check out Carrara Pro in the store :-)

Sorry, i ment a MacBook Pro newest Generation. I still name them Powerbooks, epic fail.
I found Carrara Pro.
Unfortunately the advertising dont tell what it is and what it is made for.
Is that network software? An external renderer?
I want to use DAZ internal Iray for rendering
Is it possible to use 2 computers for rendering 1 pic?
If you use Reality or Luxus, your render is sent to an external render engine (Luxrender), which can be networked between dissimilar machines. Of course, texture assets have to be copied around, so there is a lot of network traffic when you do this, at least initially. The drawback is that Reality and Luxus cost money; and you have to do some amount of work to get lighting and materials to work with Luxrender (just as you do when switching from 3delight to Iray within Daz Studio).
In theory, Iray should also be networkable, but this capability isn't yet available with DAZ Studio. I expect that this will change in 2016.
Carrara is a separate rendering and scene-building program from DAZ Studio. It can use many of the same assets as Studio, but they are very different programs. It is not a renderer (though it has one).
Hi LIVA and Ostadan,
Carrara is a more "professional" version of DAZ Studio, meanign that it can do more. Carrara can do modeling, animation, and includes pretty robust landscape generating features. As it stand right now, it does not support Genesis 3 or GeoGraphting, so it is not a complete replacement for Studio. It has a seperate program that installs with it called RenderNode, which you can install on multiple computers. You launch RenderNode on each "node" and then start Carrara Pro on the main computer. There is some setup invloved, but once that is done, the main comptuer will connect over the network to each"node" and copy the assets to each client, and then render the picture using cores from the main computer and each node. The default license can use up to 10 indiviudal computers, or a total of 20 cores (whichever total you hit first). You can purchase a licence for more nodes, but I imagine this would be sufficant for home use :-). Unlike using Reality or Luxus, the RenderNode client that comes with Carrara Pro handles the chore of synicng and transferign assetrs during the render. However, as I mentioned earlier, Carrara cannot replace Studio at the present time. If you want to use a Genesis 3 figure (for example), you have to do the setup of the character and pose in Studio, export as an OBJ file, and then import it into Carrara. However, taking this route, you can no longer manipulate the figure inside Carrara. If you are using Genesis 2 or older figures, and do not need GeoGraphting, you can do everything in Carrara. Carrara has a superiour (and faster) rendering engine than the 3Delight renderere in Studio. I would imaigne (however) that if you have an nVidia GPU that the Iray renderer would be easier to use than Carrara's renderer. Good luck!
Thank you so much Ostadan and LinkRS :-D
This all sounds to me like, if i wait a bit DAZ3D and the internal iRAY can do that in near future.
When it comes to professional 3D work i use C4D and Blender. Both are great for modeling.
For quick and dirty scratches to visualize ideas Second Life is an unbeatable tool.
What i love in DAZ3D is, i can do 3D photography that looks RL when done perfectly.
The Genisis 2/3 Dolls in combination with the new iRay render engine is what kicks my butty.
The only import/export hazzle i want to do is texturing in Photoshop and zBrush.
The semi professional 3D landscaping tools atm are not worth the waiting for long render times if i judge the results.
For this it's more efficient to use a photo background in post production since i create stills only and don't do animations.
Genesis 2/3 in combination with some custom texture work and iray is awesome and can look Hollywood like if the work with that tools is done with lots of craftsmanship and patience.
Plus some DAZ3D enviroments and props can look Hollylike as long they are blurred a bit and out of focus.
Huggies to you, thank you again, let's try harder, LIVA
PS: I just bought the awesome Garibaldi Hair System and have to wait a bit also since it is not compatible to iRay render atm.
The Hair system in C4D is awesome good, so if in DAZ3D there is a OBJ. Import / Export / material fiddeling hazzle still,
its not attractive to think about to waste time with that. Time will come :-D
