Texture compression threshold

What is the effect of the texture compression threshold in the advanced iRay render settings tab?

Mine defaults to 512 and 1024.

What would be the benefits of setting it higher? Would I get nicer detail on skins, for example?

  • err.. anyone?

  • Don't bump.

It is the size above which Iray applies compression to images before passing them to the renderer, in order to help everything fit on the GPU - the High compression can be over-fierce and produce artefacts, though normal maps (which tend to be worst affected) are now protected. Increasing the numbers, however, may exhaust your GPU or even system memory so care needs to be taken.

    Sorry.

Thanks for this. I have a fair amount of CPU and GPU memory, so I shall try upping them a little.
