Items changing location and orientation after parenting

A couple weeks ago, I noticed that when I position an item, say a prop, into Genesis figures hand, and then parent it to the hand, the prop changes location and orientation. Also when I parent a genesis figure (8) to another item, say a car seat, that character changes position.  It didn't used to do that. Is there a setting I tweaked or turned on that I didn't know of?

    That would be the Parent in Place checkbox. You must have unchecked it.

    or, if you are dragging-and-dropping in the Scene pane to change parent, there is a checkable item in the pane's option menu - the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the pane's tab. Both are the same setting so changing one will also change the other.
