Genesis3 and 3Delight [solved]
Hi,
first of all, excuse my ignorance. :) Genesis3 came out about a week after I heavily invested into Genesis2 morphs and characters, so I was really pissed off, and did not want to hear anything about it. :D And now that I'm finally ready to face the new generation, it's hard to find anything in the forums that is several months old. :(
If you could just point me to the right direction where I can read up on this, I would really appreciate it.
Here's my problem. When I load Genesis (1) into Daz Studio 4.8, and do a 3Delight render without changing anything (just zooming in on the head), this is what I get:
Looks okay. Moving on, when I load Genesis 2, this is what I get:
Looks even better. Moving on. Load Genesis 3, and:
Whoa, I'm scared. Looks like a werewolf. Her skin looks terrible, her eyes look terrible. Not too many options for her eyes to choose from, and all look terrible, only in different colors. There's also a reflection "hard-coded" on the eyes, which I can change to reflections of other, non-existing objects, but cannot remove.
When I render it in Iray, her skin and eyes look okay, even the fake reflection is gone, but I don't want to use Iray.
Can Genesis 3 be used with 3Delight at all? Do other Genesis3 characters add better looking eyes and skin? Victoria 7 only has Iray promo pictures, so I cannot tell if I'd be able to use her at all. Cailin has promos done in 3Delight, and they look nice. But is that what comes out of the box, or does achieving that look require a lot of material changes (that was not needed with Genesis and Genesis 2)?

Simple answer...yes.
The Genesis 2 default is using the Omnifreaker UberSurface. G3 is using AoA's SSS shader.
Soooo...
The camera headlamp is NOT very flattering for the AoA shader...you either need to tweak the shader settings (skin surfaces) or add some 'real' lights. Without shadow casting lights, she really does have that Chernobyl glow about her.
The Reflections are removable...you just need to remove the Opacity maps from the EyeMoisture surface and set it to a very low or 0%.
And this one is just the default with the SSS strength turned down some...the standard, as loaded it is 75% (technically Diffuse strength + SSS Strength should add up to 100% for 'energy conservation' to be preserved...but that's a whole other story).
This one reverses the default percentages (keeing them 'energy conserving') 75% diffuse/25% SSS.
Ahaaaa, I see. Thank you for the quick usability tips!

This is what I ended up with, I think it's becoming quite usable. I won't have to throw the entire Genesis 3 out the window afterall. :)))
As to energy conservation...simply put, all the surface values (diffuse strength, SSS strength, etc) if they add up to more than 100% basically means that the item is producing its own light...hence the glow. And for some reason the default settings make a glowbug. It's the same as turning the Ambient color white and cranking it's strength to a non-zero value.
