Starting Genesis 9, Eyes all White/black

Longtime DAZ tinkerer here, usually Genesis 8. I decide to try and move to G9 so I bought some nice models and started experimenting. The models generally work well enough, and everything looks normal in the regular textured preview pane, but for some reason in Iray preview their eyes are all white. When I change lighting from Dome and Scene to Dome Only (and select literally any of my HDRIs), the outer area of the eyes turns pitch black. I can turn the black into white by playing with the cutout opacity of the eye moisture, but that is the ONLY setting that does anything at all. The rest has zero effect.

Different G9 character, same issue: https://i.imgur.com/WrfUw76.png

Dome lighting only, eyes turrn black: https://i.imgur.com/7zA669Y.png

This happens with every G9 character, two different developers: https://i.imgur.com/bge16Ra.jpg

EDIT: I found what could be an important clue. When I try to load up some of the default G9 models like Kat, they load up looking fine in thhe preview, but all white and untextured in Iray. The entire character. Maybe there's a more fundamental problem with my Genesis 9 install, a missing file, and the new models I bought are still using this missing file for the eyes?

What version of Daz Studio are you using? You need 4.21.x.x or later to use all features of Genesis 9 properly.

Are you graphics drivers up to date?

Are your characters loaded at the default world center or have you moved them far away?

  • Ah, I'm using 4.12 Pro. That's probably the issue, then.

My drivers are always up to date and my characters spawn at world origin as they should. I guess my DAZ version is just too old!

Yes, too old. If you choose to update, be aware that there is an issue with crashes caused by errors in old versions of an OOT hair shader. Be sure your OOT hair product updates have been installed.

That's a helpful reminder, virtually all my hair is OOT. Thanks so much!
