Nvidia

Hallo;

I know that this has been asked more then a million times already…

But still i need to know this.

What graphics card is recommended to make Iray renders speed up.

And i know that i will be asked questions like how much am i willing to spend.

The way i see it is quite simple…i do not render in very high resolutions.  My highest render resolution is 1024 x 768. And no fancy high render settings…simple scenes.

In other words…an entry level graphics card which will make my current renders considerably faster then they are now.

From what i understand it mainly depends on the amount of cuda cores on the GC.

Thus…the main question would be…on a scale of one to ten…where ten would be the most expensive GC…where does it all start when some one would want to buy a reasonably basic card that would make default Iray renders a tad quicker.

Thx for viewing.

You want it put simply? Get the best you can afford. Get a GTX980i  There are lots of versions of the 980i as there are for all the cards so read what people who have bought them say. With the bigger cards, make sure your choice will physically fit in your PC and think about the additional cost of another fan or two if you think you'll need it. Check your power supply is adequate too.

If you can't afford that, get a 980. If not that, a 970, if that's too much, a 750 and so on. Money buys rendering speed. One more tip, when you render, just use the card and leave the processor alone.

Entry level? GTX750. Consider this though... After a while, probably a short while, you will want to do more and do more quicker so I refer to my original premise.

There, no questions, no 'what ifs'  just put your hand in your pocket and dig as deep as you can.

    Good luck,

    G

I recently purchased a new computer and picked up the GTX980ti. At over $700, this was the most expensive component. My longest render time was 45 minutes at 10,000 reso with 5 figures, full background and uberenvironment. I agree with geoff6 - get as much as you can afford (and) what your system can handle. Check out this thread - I received some great advice on building my new computer. I have the option of adding 3 more GTX980ti cards. It also makes a great gaming rig.http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/60696/help-me-build-my-new-daz-computer#latest

Not quite...yes, CUDA cores are important to speed, but if the scene does not fit in the card's memory, all those cores don't matter.  So 4000 cores and 1 GB of memory are not worth much, because even a simple scene can hit that 1 GB limit.  The practical lower limit is 4 GB...so you want to get the most cores you can at that limit.

What Vcard do ou have now ?  We all desire the best hardware possible for 3D graphics, but not necessary.  Most important is research.  Overall, not only did I notice a substantial speed improvement with video card, but cpu and ram increased speeds as well via viewport scene creation.  I do not render large resolution image, thus far max is 1920 x 1080.  My previous card was an Nvidia evga 630, recently I purchased an Nvidia Egva 670 ftw card, and was surprised by the cards performance, card has similar specs to newer cards but way less expensive then newer cards.  .

So, I began a thread asking why?

But if your planning someday to render/view 4K monitor resolution or high quality print, then I would recommend a newer series powerful card, that fit's your budget.  Here's a thread with various Vcard benchmarks that illustrates different comp specs and Vcard performance.
