Is it possible to work during a Render?

I know Rendering is very system intensive but I just thought I would see if anyone has had any success in doing both at once. Exporting saved scenese to an external hard drive and rendering on a different computer maybe? Just cuious.

What do you mean by "work"? In Daz Studio? If you are not using an external renderer, then as far as I know, you will not be able to work in Daz Studio while rendering. You can still do almost anything else on your computer though.

yes, you can do this a number of ways, external drive, NAS, or sharing content on a computer.

Having the same content on another computer, export the scene (or exclusive to 3Delight export an .RIB), load on the other computer (or use external 3Delight rendering on same machine or another)

limiting the cores used by a rendering process using the OS or using the GUI of an external rendering engine.

  • I've been able to load a second instance of Daz and work on scenes there while I wait for the first instance to finish rendering.

That's not a good practice...both instances will share the same temp folder and if you close it or it crashes, the second instance can impact the ongoing render in the first.

Yep, having the studio on two differenet computers is the safest way, because as mentioned, it can strain one computer to the crash point when two studios are open. On my computer, it would slow it down so much anyway that I never wanted to do two at once.

Do you know about the Batch Render product that allows you to setup your scenes, que them, and they render one after another? Great for when you're sleeping smiley Get it now for $8.98 ! It's easy to use too, works directly in your studio. Select what you want to render, where to render it to, the format (png, etc) and you're good to go.

Uhhh NO! I did not know about that product! That is awesome!! My only concern (because I'm not a big computer whiz) is that my computer will fry from making the processor(i3Core/4GBRAM) work that hard for an extended time. It's already kinda loud as it is rendering one. Anyone know anything about that? Can it take it or is that a legit concern?

    Thanks!

I guess the batch render product is 3delight only? Or would it work for iray?

Yes, it's a 3Delight only.   There is no stand alone Iray, so that route is a bit pointless, as the batch rendering relies on the standalone 3Delight.

I've used this product since it was first released.  It will work with Iray.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  • MJC, thanks for the advice - i didn't know I shouldn't have two instances of Daz running at once on the same computer.

As for the Batch Render product, there are conflicting messages above. Can we get Daz to weigh in on whether it works with IRAY?

It's doable...just not advisable.  I've messed up more than one item I was working on because I forget to save the preset before closing out the second instance.  So I had to go back and start the preset over.
