Corrupt UI after updating Daz Studio
I just experienced a MAJOR issue with the latest DAZ Studio update. About an hour ago when I opened the DIM there was a notice about a Studio update, (version 4.22.0.15 if I recall correctly) so I went ahead... It’s always worked before so why not now? BIG MISTAKE. I installed via the DIM like I’ve always done, and what I was left with was a massively corrupt version 4.22.0.1. I could still find what looked like a full installation in my C: Program Files- DAZ3D-DAZStudio4 folder. But when I clicked on the application icon to start it (desktop icon was gone) all I got was the attached screenshot.
I tried rebooting (twice) and making sure my NVIDIA drivers were all OK- that didn’t help.
I tried going to DIM and trying to reinstall version 4.22.0.1 and it is gone- both under the “ready to download” tab and the “installed tab”. I tried refreshing and that didn’t help.
So I went into my product library hoping I could find a copy of version 4.22.0.1 despite knowing it was probably going to be gone and yes it was. Then I try downloading a fresh copy of DS from the website and all I get is a link to download the DIM- which I already have installed.
I don’t know what ese to do except uninstall the DIM and everything else using Revo Unistaller and then do a complete reinstall of DS, the DIM and everything else! I organize my library manually so thankfully I have backups, but it will still be a major PITA.
I did submit an official bug report, but I just was curious if anyone had ever had this happen. I’ve been in this hobby since Poser 2 and in DS since Genesis and I’ve never had it happen!

It looks like DS was still running when you tried to update it. If it's in the Installed tab, uninstall it, then reinstall.
There is an issue wherby if you try and update Daz Studio before it has fully shut down then it produces a very blank UI. I am not sure that is it tho - that looks like all the UI elements have been set to white. Try going to Window -> Style -> Select Style and pick something other than what you have. Hopefuly clicking Accept will give you back something more usable.
FYI, if you install 4.22.0.15 then 4.22.0.1 SHOULD be gone as you cannot have two regular versions of the App installed at the same time. If you want two staggered versions you should use the public build for that.
Edited thread title to avoid spreading panic. This is a known behaviour, as the others have described, and has been pretty much throughout the line of DS 4 - it is, as also noted above, fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling (one of the rare cases when that is a fix).
No it was closed. The screenshot happened after the installation was finished and I noticed there wasn't a dekstop icon ( happens sometimes). So I went to the C: drive to find the launch file and make a shortcut.
Sorry. I had no desire to start a panic. It was something that never happened before and I was not relishing having to wipe it all out and redo everything- which I wound up having to do. I had no idea this was a known behavior.
Thanks for the reply. DS was closed when I ran the update. The only thing open was DIM. I did wind up wiping all the DS installations and getting fresh download. It took some work but I now have a fully working version 4.22.0.1. Must have been one of thoise mysterious "Windows things"
That is less true of the latest build, which keeps the window open until later in the shut down, but it was still true with the previous build.
Good tip to remember. Thanks!
I hadn't appreciated that it was hnaging around after the window closed - though I stand by "less true", even if there are still occasions when it can lurk waiting for an unwary swimmer to pass overhead (dee-dup dee-dup-dee-dup deedup deedup deedupdeedup)
I am misremembering my instances problem. (Gosh it was only a few days ago - where has my memory gone?) It was hanging up for 15 minutes not responding while clearing the scene, not after it cleared the scene. The process stays in the Task Manager for a short time, not minutes, after the scene is cleared. Sorry for adding to the confusion. Yes, that unwary swimmer now has a better chance to reach the shore uneaten with the latest DS release.
OK, thank you - I was quite prepared to believe it was my memory at fault.
