Runtime Question

Is it necessary to have a libraries folder in my runtime folder?  I have noticed that a lot of the stuff in the libraries folder inside the runtime folder doesn't necessarily show up inside of daz studio.  If I move those files out of the libraries and into the runtime they show up fine. I have copied all of my libraries folder into the runtime folder but don't want to delete it if its necessary to run the program

Is it necessary to have a libraries folder in my runtime folder?

Yes, Runtime > Libraries is for Poser Format Content, although DAZ Studio items often use the  Runtime > Textures folder as well.

I have noticed that a lot of the stuff in the libraries folder inside the runtime folder doesn't necessarily show up inside of daz studio.

It should all show up in 'Poser Formats', that is what that folder is for, you will NOT see these items if you are looking under DAZ Studio Formats.

So, you are moving folders up one level?   Like Camera, Lights, Character etc from Runtime > Libraries to Runtime?   That is a bad idea.   There is no need to move anything as long as your Content Directory Manager is set up correctly.   Runtime is there for the use of Poser Content inside DAZ Studio, a lot of older items are ONLY in Poser Format, like V4, M4 and anything before them.

It also meant that Poser users can add that Runtime folder as a Poser Library without having to move anything.

  • There may be "resource" folders - like \Runtime\Libraries\!DAZ\FigureName - which must stay where they are as they are read from by the actual user-facing files in the visible libraries. Moving those will cause errors.

That's kind of what I figured.  I will just leave things alone then thanks!

Yes, that's right, it isn't supposed to. The only folders you should see in the Poser Formats section are the standard Libraries folders and all their contents. Everything else is a folder full of data files, usually for morphs, that are not intended to be visible in the program — they're referred to by links in your content files, you must never try to load them manually.

It isn't at all necessary to run the program. It is, though, necessary if you ever want to use all the content you've bought. Moving random folders is the quickest way known to break your content.

Thank you!  I learned not to move anything the first week without asking first lol.  I'm not even going to go into what a nightmare that was.  I appreciate the help.
