rotating propellers

I downloaded the plane of tf3dm. The aircraft is in the obj format and works correctly. The aircraft folder is a file with textures representing the rotating propeller. I tried to replace normal static texture propellers on these rotating but does not look it correctly.

Anyone know how to replace this file?  Here it is probably something similar http://www.daz3d.com/blue-sky-biplane

  • Linking to something "similar" doesn't help too much.  Without knowing anything about the actual model you're trying to get working, it's hard to say what might need to be done.  Can you provide a link to the specific model on tf3dm that you are using?

    Hi Calaopie

The prop is modelled so you have to make it transparent to hide it.

Then replace each prop with a disc, I used a very flat cylinder primitive.

The supplied texture can then be applied to those discs.

On the attached image I made the discs slightly transparent and left the original props slightly opaque.

You could try as well to use motion blurr, but that requires the propellers of your prop to have a rotating morph

Fascinating topic. I liked the tutorial page. It seems to me that in general with these situations you want more variance and and a bit more contrast, noise or jitter while keeping the circle of the prop tip wispy, like cirrus cloud. It's not just a question of darkening the circle or lightening it or increasing the contrast... it's usually a mix of a lot of stuff. Also it's a sunny day, judging by the clouds so a bit more light on the nose of the plane. See herc2.jpg attached.

Related: the Toon Plane in the DAZ store has a bit more of a complex shape standing in for the propeller... but I looked at the .OBJ file using Hexagon and there is a propeller embedded in the circular shape, which doesn't turn - or at least it didn't turn for me. What's up with that I wonder.

In this outtake of the Toon Plane my dog is flying around the apartment complex on a cloudy day, and I handled it by keeping the circle pretty much transparent, but with opaque gray on the left side and transparent blue (added contrast) on the right.

Tried this method, didn't work for me.  Certainly hope I can figure it out though.
