Making clothes move with models.

in New Users
Hi all! My name is Tom and I have been using/learning DAZ for about a year and a half. I have created several characters for my books and really love working with 3D. Recently I started using Hexagon 2 and learning how to make content. I have successfully made a pair of pants for one of my female Genesis characters. However, when I import them into DAZ and put them on my model, they do not move with the model. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a tutorial that I can use to learn how to make my clothes move with the models?
Thanks!

What you need to do is to rig the clothing, not as hard as it sounds (nowadays)
Have a look at this thread, especially the post by kaotkbliss half way down for the method : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/66423/further-query-how-to-combine-hexagon-clothing-with-model#latest
See if that helps?.
Thank you!! I will definately check it out and I'll let you know.
Happy Thanksgiving!! :)
I followed the instructions on the thread listed above, but when the process was complete, most of the pants seemed to dissapear inside the model. The parts that were left moved with the model like I had wanted, but most of the pants were gone. Suggestions?
Did you model them to the base mesh or to a customized character?
If you modelled them to a morph/custom character, you need to make sure that when you run them through the transfer utility, you need to use the "Reverse Source Shape from Target" under the Options selections.
I modeled the pants to a Genesis character and when I used to transfer utilitiy, it was to the same Genesis character that I used to create my model in Hexagon.
Model any clothing item to the "default as it loads" Genesis figure.
It is eventually then rigged to the "default as it loads" Genesis figure using the Transfer Utility.
Saved as "File > Save as > Support Asset > Figure/prop ....
Remove from scene.
Load new clothing to figure, dial in the character to the figure.
Ship it over the bridge to Hexagon, morph clothing if/as required ... in D/S select the clothing item ... from Hexagon ship "just the clothing" item back to D/S. Make the morph and test it. If it's a keeper, zero the morph and save the morph.
I'm not entirely sure how to do the things you described. I am a fairly new user, so I may not be up to speed on the process you're talking about.
I have attached 3 pictures of the problem I'm running into. The first picture is of the Genesis model wearing the pants I created in Hexagon 2 imported into the scene.
The second picture is a screenshot of the settings I am using in the Transfer Utility and the third is the end result.
Any help would be greatly appreciate.

You need to set the Source Shape to morph and then select the Base female morph (if that's what you used) and then in the options check Reverse Source Shape from Target.
Your screenshots will be eaier to read if you use the Snipping Tool and then upload them at actual size.
I followed your directions and the pants stayed like they were supposed to, but they still won't move with the model.
Aw, I missed the picture show :-( [jk]
Anyhow, here's the basics. From the sounds of the posts, I think it means remaking the pants, but this is how it works best and for most of the time is just fine.
That's a great guide ^ thanks for that.
Thanks so much for all the input. Sadly, the pants are still "dissapearing" inside the model. The parts that are still visible move with the model now, but half of the pants are gone now. Here's another attempt at a screen result of the finished product.

Please set the display to Smooth Shaded before taking screenshots
What are your Transfer Utility Settings?
The first picture is of the model and the pants I made imported in.
The second picture is of my Transfer Utility Settings.
The third is the end result.
You're quite welcome :-)
What I see is one image with female figure wearing clothes - and that is not the default figure.
{you did have 'fit to' applied?}
The mesh must have enough "squares" in it to shape properly - my example is not too much.
Here are the three screenshots I've been trying to upload. The first is of the Genesis figure with the pants I had made imported. The t-shirt is added to cover her breasts.
The second picture is of my Transfer Utility settings.
The third is the end result.
Those settings won't work -the Source is the figure you want to fit the clothing to, in this case Genesis, and the Source Shape needs to ebs et to the shape used (or to Current if you have a mixture of morphs applied). The Target is the thing you want to rig, in this case the trousers. In the options Reverse Source Shape from Target needs to eb checked.
DAZ won't let me check Reverse Shape from Target.
Have you set the Item Shape option under Source?
I have left them at default.
Since you modelled around the Genesis Female shape (or soem other female shape) you have to set that in Source Shape, or set Current. if you don't DS will assume you want the model to fit as it does on the base shape, which is why you get the odd results you are seeing.
Source Scene Item - the figure you want to wear the clothes (it is the source of the rigging you want).
Source Item Shape - the shape around which you modelled, if that isn't the base shape
Target Scene Item - your model (it is the target of the rigging operation)
If Source Item Shape is set then check Reverse Deformations in the options (telling the utility to adjust the shape so it fits the base shape as it fits the morphs currently applied).
And that post should be the Interactive Help popup for the Transfer Utility.
