Little glitches and nonsense
Hi everyone! I'm sure somebody somwhere has discussed this, but after performing a couple searches I've come up empty. So, that said, I'll give it a go at describing my situation.
I've a bit older laptop that I work from, Alienware 17 R5, vintage 2019. I've upgraded the original HDD to a 2TB SSD and added a 1TB M.2 as well. I'm currently running 16 GB of RAM.
Well, I'm about out of space on my 2TB drive which houses only my Daz program and downloaded content. I've not even downloaded much of what I own as I was concerned about losing too much space, yet here I am now, almost out of space. Anyway, the problem I've noted is that not all of my characters for Genesis 8/8.1 show up to be selected, the seem to stop somewhere in the middle of the "S" names. I'm not even sure what else I have that may have gone missing. That said, I am positive this has a lot to do with the limited disk space and wonder if some of this is also due to RAM being consumed as well. All else seems to work fine, even being able to render.
I'm purchasing a 4 TB SSD M.2 to increase my storage space and keep this laptop viable -- I'd have to mod almost anything off the shelf as it is, and I don't really have the money to be tossing at a new laptop, even as much as I'd like faster renders.
The question I have is whether or not anyone has seen a real reason to opt for also boosting my RAM to 32 GB at the same time. After all, if I'm opening this up again, I might as well accomplish all in one shot, right?
I'm sure someone out there has had such issues before and made some changes; if you're knowledgeable about hardware and the requirements for larger scenes with a lot of props -- which I'd like to be able to do, let me know if it sounds like adding RAM is sending me down the right path, or if I likely have some other issue(s) causing my missing characters and whatnot. I look forward to the feedback.
Thank you!

click on that plus a bajillion times, all will be displayed. Or if you click on the arrows next to the number a bit left of the plus button, you can switch "library pages". I prefer to click a bajillion times and display one massive list.
As for RAM, just make sure you can switch it before buying, but there is no such thing as too much RAM, it's always gonna help performance to have more in my experience.
Thanks for the tip. I've never noticed that it was scaleable before, and I've been using Daz for about 14 years. I'll have to give it a try! I just thought is was funny that all at once I'd lost a good chunk of characters, but they still showed up when I went into the actual "character" folders.
Yes, my thoughts on RAM too. I just don't want to throw money out there if it really doesn't do anything, though RAM is cheaper now than it was when I upgraded 4 years ago.
Thanks again!
I noticed a definite difference when upgrading 32GB's to 64GB's, Going from 16GB's to 32GB's makes bigger difference as Windows doesn't need to use virtual memory (disk space) as an extension to RAM that much.
