Daz Studio basic installation question

Hello All, Despite being a premium member for some years in the past, and currently renewed, I have never installed Daz Studio. Is it a fully offline software, eg can I download the actual software and keep it on a drive and use that drive to install on several computers, or is there a load of internet activation type considerations ? If it is free I don't really understand the role of Daz Install Manager because even other paid software in my account, eg Bryce, just allow for a straightfoward manual download. Many thanks for any help.

DAZ Studio uses completely standalone installers which can be ported onto multiple computers, providing only you use it. You do not need an Internet connection to activate it but there is a licence key that has to be applied. This is added to your "My Account" on the website when you have "purchased" and downloaded the product.
There are three ways of installing Studio: manual, DIM and Connect. Connect is about to be scrapped but that leaves you the first two options. Having said that, some products, such as plug-ins, can only be installed using DIM.
DAZ Studio is free but the content you need to make the most of it is not. DAZ makes its profits from selling the content, not Studio itself.

If you install everything with DIM you will always get any updates that are available for all the products you own. I would suggest initially downloading the products directly to the computer you want to work with offline that way everything gets installed exactly where it is supposed to be which will make updating later easier. All you need to do to work offline with Daz Studio is to not sign in to your account inside Daz Studio. I would also suggest that you install Daz Studio with DIM as well. That is the easiest way to always keep it updated. Here is a link to DIM in the Wiki and it gives a pretty good idea of what you can do and how to use it and set it up. If you have any issues working with it please don't hesitate to ask and we'll help the best we can.
Daz Central, an alternative front end for instal manager, is in the process of being shut down. Daz Connect, used to isntall content through Daz Studio, is still going on but cannot be used to install Studio itself (obviosuly) or plug-ins and other items that require elevated privileges, nor content for use in other applications.
You do get the Genesis Starter Essentials, among other things, free.
I'm having an issue with my Michael 4.
It's simply not either downloading or installing. (see screen shots)
I've contacted DAZ, but they just refer me to a page that's supposed to solve problems. Only it doesn't solve this one.

How did you install the content? To where? Is Daz Studio allowed to connect to your Daz account? It would be helpful if your screenshots showed the full dialogue box, not just a cropped version.
I used Install Manager (DIM). Also, the "Lost and Found" shows the names... but no actual thumbnail. << confused here.

Can you find the files you installed in the Content Library under Poser Formats (Michael 4 is Poser files, mainly)?

Yes and no, assuming that is in a folder selected as a Poser format content directory - they are Michael 4 files, but theya re not "user-facing" files (they are the system thata llows additional morph packs to be added to the figure). Character>Daz People wiould have the user-facing files for loading the figure, with Pose>Daz's Michael 4 having a lot of the others. They should be availble in Daz Studio, via the Content Library pane Poser Formats>folder you installed to>Figures>Daz People (confusingly, in Poser the Character folder appears as Figures - and faces appears as Expressions as I recall).
