How to reduce figure quality to speed up posing?

When I have four figures in a scene, it's impossible to do anything for lack of enough memory.  Is there any way to reduce definition of the figures so they can be moved around freely?

Make the ones you are not working on invisible...

Switch to one of the nontextured drawstyles (Wire Shaded/Smooth Shaded)...the drawstyles are switched by clicking on the down arrow next to the little sphere in the upper corner of the viewport.

Check the display settings optimization.  Edit> Preferences > Interface > Display Optimization.

Work on one character as a time, save it out as a Scene Subset and then load all of them when you are ready to render (loading subsets will merge them into the main scene, not overwrite it).

If using Iray, hide the aux viewport.

    Get more RAM.

One trick that works really well is groups.  I will usually put each figure plus its hair clothes, etc, all into a single group (from the Edit window). This easily allows me to turn whole figures + al ltheir associated props on and off. I also put the entire background set into a group, and often I will put lights into one or more groups (depending on what I am doing). Then I can turn things on or off to do testing, work with them, etc.  So you can speed things up by putting things into groups, and turning off all but the figure you are working on.

Plus definitely, go into Display Optimization and turn stuff down. That is the #1 killer.

Also, check the clothing you are using with a given figure. If it has "interactive update" turned on, turn it off. This seems to slow things down substantially, at least on both computers I've used DAZ with.

  • Thanks mjc and Steven for your geat suggestions. One more question: how to turn figures off and on?

In the Scene tab, there will be a little eye next to each item...that turns it on/off.

  • Thanks mjc appreciate the help.
