Flickering in animation FIXED - Probably...
Hey there.
I've found very hard to resolve "texture flickering" for animations in Daz iray, no matter how high or low the renders specs are.
There are so few discussions onlline that I had to make lots of work arounds...
I did some studies and I've come with a couple of fixes that worked, unfortunately this is no "ULTIMATE SOLUTION" for it.
I'll be sharing them here, so, maybe I can help someone or even gather other experiences on how fixing it.
Consider that "flickering" in an animation can be a texture moving, a bump/displacement inconsistency (like on brick walls looking more or less bumpy), shadow inconsistency (shadow is not the same in every frame on a surface), a reflexion/gloss behavior inconsistency (on a gem the high gloss or reflection is different fro frame to frame), even when most of the scene is standing still or when a camera is locked on an object. And the best part (worst) is that depending on the proximity with the camera, the deffect is not there anymore.
Fix 1 - Converting the problematic object to subdivision and lowering the bump and displacement strenght -this can diminish the weird behavior. Sometimes you need to export and fix the base model itself adding or changing the mesh. Or change it for a texture that won't behave weird. This solved texture inconsistency on fabrics and some walls.
Fix 2 - Edit the texture disabling the Smooth/angle=0/RoundCorner=0/AcrossMaterials=off/CornersRoundness=0. It fixed my renders on GEMS. Unfortunaltely some gems and metalic materials won't behave so nicely so you need to turn it into subdivision and test the algorithms - somtimes works flawlessly, sometimes it doesn't work at all.
Fix 3 - On the render tab, turn the Optimization/Instancing from memory to speed (the other way around can solve other bugs...). This solved a garage pavement render with cars. Unfortunately I noticed the shadow quality is worse on speed... but the cars looked the same, so, priorities.
Fix 4 - My less favorite and is more like a work around - Chose a frame whose the object is looking good and create a PNG with transparency to place it over on the video editing software. Or render a sequence that will be placed over it... Not exactly a fix but, it can save the presentation when you're out of time, hehe.
Daz 4.22 behaved the same to earlier versions, so, this is probably an iray thing.
I'm happy if I'm able to be helping someone, or even get some other tips of how you guys work around that.
The gem iself is a product here from Daz from a time before iray I guess, so, the author has no fault on that.
