Characters Loading With Marble White Skin

in New Users
I know I've seen a post about this, and I did search for it, but I couldn't find it. I am loading some previously saved characters and/or scenes with characters, and all the people have white skin, like a marble statue. Except for "the kids". They load normally.
If I insert a new Actor, their skin is normal.
I must have changed a setting by accident or something. How do I get the characters to return to their normal skin color when I load a saved scene? I can apply skin back onto a character, but isn't that the point of saving a scene? I shouldn't have to load skin again? Everything else is in color...hair, clothes, props.

Is this in preview or in renders only? If it's render, are you using 3Delight and are you sure the newly loaded character is using the same materials (or at least the same shader) as the white ones?
This is in Preview, before I do anything other than open a scene containing previously saved ators through the Open Recent dialogue.
OK, can you use the Surface Selection tool (from the Tools menu) to click on one of the white areas, then in the Surfaces pane look at the extreme top-left and see which shader is used?
Richard, it is "AoA_Subsurface"
OK, that is the one that tends to go funny - but only in renders. Do the figures that load correctly show the same thing?
Any skin that is correctly loaded says Iray Uber
Is the default Lights and Sahders package still installed? Have you changed your content directories, either moved the folders on disc or chnaged the settings in Daz Studio?
Hi Richard - The Default Lights and Shaders Package is installed.
Daz Customer Support via a Trouble Ticket told me to adjust my Content Directories order as a possible solution to some "missing items" problem I was having. They told me to move the main folder where most of my content is stored up the tree to the top. Could this be the problem, and how would I fix it?
Some characters (Indigo for V7, for example) load with "normal" skin. But others (Garen, for example....see screenshot) load with the marble skin and the Shader says AoA_Subsurface. How can I get that to either load initially with the proper skin or is it possible to apply the proper skin after the grey skin loads?
I'm also notincg that certain iannimate elements of a scene are loading grey. For example, in the Cosy Living Room, the door loads with normal colr, but the door HANDLE is grey.
I suppose it's possible that if the directory you moved up had an older and either incompatible or broken version of the shader then following the rearrangment DS would find that before the "good" version, and so fail to load it correctly. Now that it seems to be sure that it' is a file issue load one of the bad items, then go to Help>Troubleshooting>View Log, scroll right to the end, and look back up to see if there are any errors relating to loading the item.
Do you think it would do any good to uninstall and reinstall the Default Lights and Shaders Package ?
Only if your install directory is the one that is now first in the list.
Ok, thanks Richard. I will try that :)
