How to add a sky background

I have some outdoor scenes that I have purchased from DAZ, but the background from the horizon upwards is just grey checkers. How do I get a blue sky or something similar to be used as the backdrop of an outdoor image? Can this be done in Daz, or only in post work via Photoshop?

The same applies for a scene purchased with windows looking outside. How would I get the exterior view through the window to be something like a sky or forest or anything, for that matter?

I see that I can purchase backgrounds on Daz, but it says "Can be Used in any 2D or 3D Software that Can Import JPGs".

You can add a backdrop into Daz 4.8 by going to Enviroments - Choosing Backdrops from the drop down then use the arrow to browse to the image you want to add there -

At the top right you can then set your BG to adjust aspect ratio to backdrop or adjust dimensions to backdrop so it doesn't get stretched or squeezed (see image)

Sometimes I find it easier to add the background in 2D software though

    Hope that helps

  • Sweet! I'll try it! I had no idea that could be done. So much to learn. Thanks!

  • That totally works, thank you again!

Using a photographic background can produce great results, but when doing so, don't neglect to match the viewport perspective and the lighting angle and quality to the photo as much as possible.

  • Thanks for the tip - yes, adjusting the angle helps for sure.

  • Another option...

If you use Iray to render, you can use the default dome under Render Settings > Editor > Environment > Environment Mode.

To change the default JPG to your own, you go to Environment Map and browse for your own JPG.

I don't have that tab.  At least not where you are showing it.  How would I go about finding it?

Never Mind.  I found it and added it to the tabs.  This will be most helpful!
