Mixed Asian Character G3F

edited November 2015 in Art Studio

Hello to all,

I am a newbie in DazStudio and at all at 3D modeling of humans and clothes.

However i noticed that there is not enough Japanese/Asian character presets for Genesis 3.

So i tried to make a preset of cute young Japanese inspired girl.

I didnt want to be super realistic or to copy real face so i shaped it by my imagination and sence.

So please take a look and tell me what you think and give me some reccommendations.

Hello and welcome to DAZ! smiley

Your character is cute, but to be honest, I don't think she looks japanese/asian. I'm a newbie myself and have found it can be tricky to get that specific look I want when starting to fiddle with the morph sliders. It can be easier to start with a preset morph that is similar to what you want to achieve and go on from there. For asians, I think there's three morphs/characters available for G3F in the DAZ shop: http://www.daz3d.com/chiyo-for-victoria-7 , http://www.daz3d.com/ej-atsuko-for-genesis-3-female-s and http://www.daz3d.com/natsumi-for-genesis-3-female and I can recommend them all. There might be others out there on other sites too.

Good luck with your morphing and it will be interesting to see what you come up with in the future. smiley

  • Yes you could be right. My character is not similar to you sugested ones. However to be honest nor Chyo nor Natsumi looks like typical asian or Japanese. I do think that recently asian girls/women has changed alot and the typical asian faces are no longer available ;) However i do understand my character is not typical one since i didnt stay with thinking to be copy of real face. However mouth and eyes exists in many young japanese women. And if you look the face into the profile the shape is typical asian (i have to upload a profile render :P ). Also i did tried to not make it look like alien :)

You are right is very dificult to play with the morphs and to achieve the result that is wanted. It could be tricky.

Hoever i will continue to improuve it :)

If there is more suggestions anyone is welcomed to say so.

Morphs are only half the equation. If you don't have the right texture, the morph can be spot on and it still won't look right.

For example, I have yet to see an asian with freckles - and the texture you used is freckled.

yes you are right about this. I dont have yet the right texture i used what i have. I was concentrated on shape at first.

But yes there must be the right texture as well.

However for me is a bit dificult to make textures since i am a really newbie in this. So can someone recomend good tutorial on basics?

  • p.s. i did see asina with freckles but yes you are right it is very rare. usually that are mixed asian/european or asian/american

In that point of view maybe my character can be considered as mixed not typical asian. (because of the shape as well ofcource)

I think your character is lovely - she's got a soft, sweet and beautiful look about her.  I can't comment on whether she looks Asian, I have no idea ;-)

Your character is nice, but the lack of an epicanthal fold makes her look less asian than she could.

Welcome to the forum.  Your off to a great start.  Her eyes look Asian, but rest of her facial feature does not, but fabulous render just using your imagination.

Thank you. Well you are right maybe it is a mixed person Asian + European ;)

Well i did tried to shape the eyes a bit more to looks more asian however i am not sure is the result better.

Also i did tried to modify the skin textures however i think i didnt got good result. I have dificulties to construct a skin texture since i am complete newbie at making textures at all ;)

Anyway i attach a quick render of first eyes modification i made.... is not much different but i added an epicanthal fold a bit as Esemwy suggested. However i didnt push it too much since i was fraid it will broke the overal look.

However i will work more on this later and will upload a second version of the modification.

Please note that the folowing render is a preview mainly to show a slightly modified eyes shape and not in full quality so there is some distortion in rendered textures

Hi friend, regardless of opinions very impressive character you've created.  Key importance is having fun from learning experience.  Tweaking skin textures takes alot of practice and patience, in time you'll find what techniques work best for you.  Your on your way to some impressive renders, lookin forward to your updates.

Hi, I like your character. She reminds me of some of the students I work with who are a mix of australian/phillipines or australian/thai.

Hi friend, your welcome.  Happy to assist anytime.  As for texturing I learn by ton's of forum reading/experimentation, from all my experience I've learned lighting is key factor.  Proper lighting is essential.  And definetly surface tab, I spent many hours in surface tab, taking notice what each surface tab does.  Sorry, couldn't be more helpul pertaining to texturing, best way to learn is asking specific questions and alot of experimenting.

Szark's thread has tremendous information to assist beginners.

Novica at art studio, has gathered ton's of information, pertaining to all aspects of 3D, including reviews of many various products, illustrating different textures, lighting, etc......  which certainly helps beginners progress.

In my first year of 3D, these two threads taught/helped me the most.  I'm sure you'll find both links very helpful as well.

If I may step in here I am a newbie 2, but I think that you should have her eyes set back the way you first had them. as for the lips well a little more pudgy or say child like pouty like she is giving ev1 a cute pouty look and maybe her head be a little more rounded like aisians are. Just my 2 cents worth now you can feel free to ignor me as the older more wiser Artist may disagree with melaugh Agood way to find out what a typical Asian looks like maybe go to google and take a look at some images of modern Asians just a thought for you.
