Bring on the Boys 3D Content Reviews

I've been around the DAZ/Poser community for close to 2 decades. I've seen content providers rise and fall, software change and mature. I like to think that I've learned a bit in that time, about art and science and technology. I participate in the various forums from time to time, but I'm not always the greatest at civil discourse or in sharing things I've learned or discovered. I'd like to change that and give something back to the community that has shared so much and taught me so much.

I've had a personal website for a very long time, some of the content there will probably be objectionable to some (I tend to be blunt and very opinionated on subjects that evoke strong feelings), but I've started a new section that stands on its own and that I hope to keep free of contention. It's called Bring on the Boys and it will feature reviews of 3D content (primarily for the Studio platform, and yes it will very often feature male characters and content for them).  I hope to be fair and objective in all my reviews (if I'm not, feel free to call me on it).

I haven't  yet established a standard format, or standards for that matter... Nor a rating system (is that really necessary?), I hope these will evolve over time.

My first  review is for Scott 6, and you can find it here: Bring on the Boys.

I hope you'll at least come take a look.

    Thanks! I certainly will. =-)

Ok... so I see I had some visitors.  But no comments? Did I not do a good job?

Would something else have been more appropriate in the way of a review?

I've updated the site structure to make my DAZ Studio stuff easier to find, and I have in mind a few easter eggs I am going to drop into my review (you'll have to look at it again after its updated).

I'd appreciate any feedback, be it positive or negative (pertaining to the review, if you have something to say about the site content other than the review, please don't make it public in this forum as its not the right place for it).

And how exactly did I end in Art Studio? This is not where I began this thread... and frankly I don't think this is where it belongs, but I'll go with it.

2nd review coming in the next couple of days along with the promised easter eggs for the Scott 6 review.

All the personal "review" threads started by customers are placed into the Art Studio.

A policy I was not aware of, thank you for elucidating.

Does seem an odd place for them.

Not really, because most people who have decided that they want to do their own "reviews" do so in the thread with images, rather than sending people to offsite links.

Rendering an Outdoor Scene with Sun and Sky (A Practical Example, Part 1)

OK, so... instead of my second review, I wrote a little article about lighting and Iray in response to some posts in a Facebook group.  Its probably elementary to many folks, and the formatting is a little sloppy because I am still getting used to the framework; but I enjoyed writing it and I hope it helps someone.

Thanks! Great review. I didn't buy Scott, the only G2M base figure I don't have, so all these features are good to know about in deciding whether I would want to buy him (on sale) in the future. I look forward to your next review.

So the freebie for Scott6 is almost ready, I'll post it in the next couple of days.

Expect a review of Michael 7 (base) by the end of the week.

Part 1 of my multipart review of Michael 7 is up at Bring on the Boys

  • evilded777evilded777 Posts: 2,464

Gosh, has it been that long? Holidays, Star Wars... so much to do.

Anyway, Part 2 of Michael 7 is available at Bring on the Boys.

Stay tuned for some downloadable material presets for M7 and Scott 6 and a review of Leo 7 (I may even throw up one for Olympia, we'll have to see).

  • Enjoyed reading your reviews, and learned a couple of things too!

Thanks Candesce and Kismet. I've been a little scattered of late.  I plan to buckle down and get more done.

Sorry...I got a little behind in the forums.   More great reviews.  I am not a vampire fan but RawArt does do great work.

The review of the Casual Heat outfit seemed fair...but I do not own it.

Unfortunately I do not have Aaron.

    Scintillant Portrait Lights

I think this is one of the most important lighting products released since the debut of Iray in Studio.
