Copying translation params from one character to another

Hopefully there is a simple answer to this - it seems to me there should be.

What I want to do is load a character (A), which I have saved as a scene subset, into an existing scene, so with the scene open I select character A and merge it into the scene.  So far so good.  But the camera(s) are pointing at another character (B), and A loads out of shot.  I want to move A to the same point as B to get it into shot.  With B selected in the scene tab, I highlight  Translation in the Parameters tab, and hit Ctrl-C to copy.  I then highlight A in the scene tab, select Translation again in the Parameters tab and hit Ctrl-V to paste.  Although this does paste the translation params from B to A, and hence A moves to the same location as B (fine), it also copies a slew of other params from B to A, including numerous morph values thus changing the shape etc. of character A. Clearly this is not what I want.

Is there a way to copy only the translation params from one character to another, or do I have to manually enter the same values for A as B has?

Edit>Paste does allow some finer control, but it may be simplest to paste to a primitive (Create>New Primitive), then copy from that and paste to B.

The Align tab can bring many things at once to the same coordinates.   It's probably one of those handy tools that isn't well-known enough.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  Using a primitve (or maybe a null?) as a proxy is ingenious.  I have not come across the Align tab but will look into it.
