How do I get hard-edged shadows (in Preview AND iRay renders)

How do I get hard-edged shadows (in iRay renders)? Also, is it possible in the Preview mode?

  • You would need to use point light sources, an HDR, and emissive surface, or a local (Point or Distant) light with a finite shape will cast light from an area, allowing some paths (from the near edge) to sneak around the shadow casting object while others (from, the far edge) are blocked, producing a fade to black rather than an abrupt cut-off.
