Strange patterns on rendered skin w/ 3Delight

In some circumstances, with some skins (for instance, Belle 6), the skin renders with very strange patterns all over it. This will be noticeable from farther away, but not in close-up. Reducing SSS percent lessens the problem, but doesn't eliminate it. Any ideas what this is and how to fix it?

Thank you.

Do you have an example picture of what is happening you can post?

It might be the shading rate.  Try changing it to 0.2 in the render settings.

There is a thread on the subject here that has more suggestions if the shading rate change does not work.

  • It might also be SSS Scale, given that it varies with distance from the figure.

That's my guess, too...but a picture, as they say is worth 1000 words.

Okay, here is an example. It looks like she has lizard skin. I tried the shade rate, as suggested, and it made no difference.

    Thanks again.

Here's one that shows the effect much more strongly. I followed the advice from the suggested thread, going into the surface editor tab and setting shading rate to 4. It did not help. By turning subsurface all the way off, the effect goes away, but the skin looks gray and dead.

Can you give a screenshot of one of parts of the skin...something like arms or legs...the subsurface part of the settings are what's needed.

  • This is SSS Scale.

  • I think I got it. I searched for "SSS Scale" and found a discussion about the same issue, where they suggested changing the group ID setting. I did it and the problem seems solved! Thanks for the help, everyone.
