Has Studio changed the way it imports old Poser content?

I recently got an old Poser product that has been tugging at my need/want reflex for a while. Gilbert the Goldfish promised "29 facial morphs to keep him happy". Imagine my disappointment when he loaded up with no morphs. Rigging and textures all okay, but no facial morphs. Gilbert Stone-Face was not happy.

I decided to try loading him in an old version of Studio (4.12.something, currently using 4.21.1.48 beta) and lo and behold, there are the facial morphs in all their glory. Well, I thought, that's unexpected, and a little disturbing. So I went back to 4.21 beta to see what would happen, and to my surprise, there are the facial morphs, like nothing was wrong before.

I imagine there is some auto-adapted data file somewhere that got created by the 4.12 load (using the same library), but I can't for the life of me find it. I tried a few other older Poser figures with morphs, but they all work, because I have presumably loaded them all before in older versions of Studio, and trying to find any that I have never tried is just too time-consuming.

  • Had you saved a scene from 4.12.x.x with the successful load? If not there won't be any helperr files that might account for the changed behaviour. I don't think there have been changes to dzpz3importer, which is the importer for Poser content (and OBJ).

No, I did not save a scene. It just worked properly in 4.21 after successfully loading in 4.12. I had tried several times before (re-load, restart Studio) without success. A mystery to me.

Vicky 4 has been coughing up "circular ERC" errors for a couple of years now, so I'd say YES it has changed.

So we need to install 4.12 for old RDNA content to work ? I mean the product page states "compatible with 4.21".

You may want to put in a ticket to see if it really is compatible with 4.21 or not so they can fix it.

It works properly in 4.21, now, but at first it didn't. Only after loading it in 4.12 (the last General Release that I had installed) did it work in 4.21 thereafter. Of course, I cannot reproduce the original state of affairs because, well, it works, now. It would require a virgin system to see if there is a real problem, or if it was just a burp in my system.

Scratch what I posted earlier, the Circular ERC errors are being caused by V4's Muscle Morphs.

Haven't used her in a couple of years so haven't bothered to investigate the cause, now that I know I get to spend a couple of hours digging through that products EXP files.

I didn't have V4 installed, but having put the base, Shapes++, Creature Moprhs, and Muscle Morphs in I am not getting an error, in the UI or through the log.

From time to time I'll wipe the drive my content directories are on, and start over with a fresh install, that is what I've just done, but in this case I've just installed everything I have in DIM for V4.

I'm still using 4.20, I don't like G9 so see no point in upgrading, I also don't use Powerloader (don't even have the plugin installed) as it's been "broken" since the launch of DS4.

That is what I get in the log, uninstall the muscle morphs and those go away, reinstall them and they come back, I can uninstall everything except V4 and the muscle morphs and I still get them.

Fired up Poser 6, loaded V4 and saved back to the library to get a non EXP CR2 with all the channels in the file, it loads into 4.20 without any issues.

That tells me there is a conflict between the way the EXP files in this product are set up, and the way the converter butchers morphs as it redesigns them for use in DS4.

  • Odd, I suspect it's a synergy (misynergy?) with another product as I have no sign of "circular" in my log from loading Victoria 4.2 and the morph packs listed in my previous post.

Can't be a conflict with another product, as I get them when all I have in the content directory is the V4 base and the muscle morphs.

Are you using PowerLoader, if so then check your "data/auto adapted" folder for any V4 folders, as the contents of that folder is what PowerLoader is actually loading, and completely ignoring the PZ2s it's meant to be loading.

Yes, I was using PowerLoader - clearing that out, though I didn't find anything in AutoAdapted, I do now see the errors in the log. Intersting, and worth a report certainly.
