Nvidia Iray informations

Hello everybody. I'm looking for a new desktop PC and there is one which would suit my budget. It comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX3060 12GB, can I make Nvidia Iray renderings in Daz with this GPU? Thank you!

Yes, you can use that GPU for Iray rendering in DS. That's actually a GPU you'll often see recommended in these forums as it has good performance and a good amount of VRAM for a reasonable price.

    Cool! Thank you so much.

In addition to that GPU, you want 32GB's of RAM

Luckily it also comes with a 32gb RAM. What do you think is more important for Daz between RAM and the processor?

    Both.

Ram allows you to do larger scenes(or deal with badly made assets more easily).

A better processor, faster and/or more cores/threads,  improves performance, especially with regard to smoothing modifiers, loading assets, processing of scripts and other things that aren't rendering. These things are primarily single core performance, so the fastest speed you can get would be best.

When rendering, speed and core count, prior to loading on the gpu, can make a difference. Even my 20c/40th server will show 100% cpu for part of the render process, then drops to 'normal' when it switches to gpu.

One thing you might want to be careful of, a lot of 'cheap'/affordable prebuilts come with a single stick of ram, which can absolutely tank performance.

Be sure to check if the 32GB is single stick or 2x16GB before you order it.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I'll check the RAM out
  • I'm on a budget and I wanted to try with a less priced GPU. What about an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 8GB? Does anyone know if it will be enough? I do not have any rush with rendering scenes but are there any other issues that may come up when using this GPU?

It wil work, but it will fairly quickly run out of memory if you are not caeful about what you load, or at least taking steps to optimise resource use (e.g. reducing map sizes, manually or with Scene Optimiser).

I see, perhaps since I don't have to build huge scenes (I use Daz only for reference in drawing, so only three models at one time are needed, without any need for ambience or even clothes) it will suffice. Thank you!
