unable to click on body part for posing [solved]

...OK this is stupid. All of a sudden I no longer can click on a body part in the viewport using the Node Selection Tool (like a hand or foot) to pose, I now have to go to the character tree in the scene tab to select them. Not sure why this changed as I'm still using 4.21.0.5 which worked fine the last time I used it.
A real pain im the bum as it totally buggers the workflow.

Open your Tool Settings and change 'Node Selection Mode'.
...found it.
For some odd reason the check mark for the figure in the scene tab was changed to "x" which locked out the figure. Not sure how this happened. though the other day did install a mouse driver update as the mouse as acting very "flakey".
Everything working as it should again.
