It was mentioned that Daz 3D renewed its license for 3delight and the 4.8 releases have had updated 3delight versions, so it's not going away anytime soon.
"Does this mean that at some future point 3Delight will no longer be supported in Daz Studio?"
"at some point in the future" covers from now to forever. It will not go away any time soon. They are still working on it within Studio and they recently re-upped the licence so we know that it will be around for the forseable future.
Getting rid of 3Delight would be commercial suicide. There a still a very large number of people out there who are still using it and no sensible company is going to ignore that. (Incidentally, I now use Iray almost exclusively.)
Don't forget, there's a lot more to 3Delight than just the features D|S lets us users play with. There's a lot of scope for allowing more existing features to be visible and adjustable in future D|S versions. And D|S isn't even using the current version of 3Delight, I think we're several versions behind.
Studio 4.8.0.59 uses 3DL version 11.0.130. The current free version of 3DL is 12.0.19. The current pay version is 12.0.27. 11.0.168 was the last version 11 release (pay, I believe).
I don't see it ever going away. There are times you simply don't want physics based lighting calculations. If I were to use Daz for gaming animations, I wouldn't use iray. There will always be a standard rendering solution in Daz Studio and it will likely always be 3Delight.
I still use 3Delight frequently. I hope it does not go away. It gives me much better postwork options using Topaz Labs add ins for Photoshop than Iray.

I can't see it as 3DL offers so much in terms of versatility that Iray cannot provide so IMHO it would be a bad idea to loose 3DL.

Cheers,

So yes, quite a few versions back, actually.
And here's the 11 Changelog

Or you can just ignore updates. :p
