Reinstalled Windows. Link DAZ Studio to content on old drive?

4 years ago, Daz Studio was installed on C and my content on H. I had to reinstall windows very recently and I still have my content folder on H. I just downloaded and installed Daz Studio 4.21 from the manager. Can I simply point Daz to my H drive saving me from downloading all my products again?

Yes, though you will also need to reimport metdata to repopulate the database (and, unless you exported userdata or have a backup of the database, you will not have metadata for your own files) - Content Library option menu>Content DB Maintenance, check Reimport Metadata, select all products (and userdata) in the next dialogue.
Thanks! I see UserData_1 in my content support folder (the one away from C drive). Can I use that? What do I do with it if I can?
As long as that is a content directory DS will see it and it will appear under Userdata in the import dialogue I mentioned, just check it and it will be read into the data (so any of your own files and categories will be restored to the sate they were in when the files were exported).
Thanks a lot Richard! Everything is working fine now. I just made sure Daz pointed at the content location knowing the user data was in there.
I also have a large Library that's migrated from older systems to newer ones, usually with circumstances that made it impossible to export metadata along with it. Is there any way to create new metadate for existing content?
At the simplest you can right-click on fiels or folders in the Content Library and select categorise. You can also make Smart Content by loading and selecting the thing the items are compatible with, then dragging thei files from the Content Library pane into the desired category in Smart content (you will then get a prompt to set the content type). Don't forget to export your userdata after that.
That will help with that part of my problem, though it sounds like I'd have to manually perform this for each item in my Library. That could take forever. It's better than doing nothing though, so thanks for the tip.
I never bother with databases or Smart Content, etc. In my opinion they never got it all working right. Maybe all that stuff might have been a good idea. But I want to Make Art, not categorize and do other work.
I've used external hard drives with my Macs and PCs. I just tell DAZ Studio and DIM where to find the directories. Then I manually go to individual items. My system works just fine. I save time and energy for more rewarding stuff.
I'm leaning that way myself, these days. I've occasionally found Smart Content useful for spotting items I've forgotten and thus don't look for in my Content Library. Lately, I've found Daz-Deals much more reliable for that kind of thing. I've always hated content management in Studio and you're right, I'd rather focus on creating!
